Synopsis: In The Silent Sister, Riley MacPherson has spent her entire life believing that her older sister Lisa committed suicide as a teenager.  Now, over twenty years later, her father has passed away and she's in New Bern, North Carolina cleaning out his house when she finds evidence to the contrary.  Lisa is alive.  Alive and living under a new identity.  But why exactly was she on the run all those years ago, and what secrets are being kept now?  As Riley works to uncover the truth, her discoveries will put into question everything she thought she knew about her family.  Riley must decide what the past means for her present, and what she will do with her newfound reality, in this engrossing mystery from international bestselling author Diane Chamberlain.

  •  I enjoy reading thrillers that mess with my head, and this is a fantastic novel that is about uncovering secrets from the past. It's a book about women's fiction with barely any romance. The protagonist Riley deals with numerous family losses, and sadness in her life. First, her older sister passes away. As years go by, her mother passes away, then her father dies. The only family she has left is her older brother Danny.
  • Danny is a confusing character, rebellious and withdrawn - he refuses to live in his parent's home or even in a apartment of this own, his residence is a trailer park. He is suffering from PTSD after his horrors of the war in Iraq. Riley begins to clean her parent's residence and shockingly discovers some truth about her sister Lissa. Her music prodigy of her sister had committed suicide. Then,  ding ding! she discovers her sister Lissa is alive..

  • Riley proceeds to go in search for Lissa.  Honestly, if I was Riley I would not look for my sister if she willingly disappeared on her own. If she was kidnapped and taken from free will, of course, I would look for her then. I liked the two sisters and their journeys, it's always great to read books about sisterhood. This book has so many plot twists, even more than Gossip Girl. I was totally in the zone, trying to gather it all on my end. It was a page turner for sure. I figured two of the plot twists on my own and I was right about them in the end.
  • I have said it before, too many plots twists makes a book become predictable. The ending I was anticipating, but it left me quite down. I excepted a different ending than what actually happened - It was too good to be true. I'm hoping there could be a second book continuing the story. The book does have it's flaws, but it was promising and I enjoyed reading it. From the first chapter to the second last chapter, the book was good.
  • The tale was not completely satisfying. Fans of women's fiction will love this book though, I did like the book a lot, but I wasn't completely happy with it. It depresses me when the book is so good until it comes to the rapid ending. Still, it does go a point down in my book, but I won't completely ignore the other good factors of the book. I don't understand why other reviewers/bloggers do that though, one flaw and they label it an inaccurate 1 for the book. I find that just plain negative. Anyway, the writing of this novel was excellent, I finished this book in one setting.  The book is moderately paced with vivid details - I loved Danny's character though. His love for his sister Riley was amazing.

  • The Silent Sister in the novel is obviously the pre-claimed dead sister Lissa who has been alive these whole years. Why did she hide the truth? What happened to her? Why didn't she ever come back? What happens now? I would have liked a more dramatic and much improved ending for the novel, however, I thought it was a good book with a lot of potential. I would rate it 3.5 out of 5 butterflies.

  5. It's a shame about the ending letting you down, and I hope there is a sequel so the story can pick back up again! Otherwise, this sounds like a good read! I wouldn't mind reading something with a little less romance than all the books I have been reading lately. Also, books that mess with minds are enjoyable for me too!

    1. I hope there is a sequel for this book, I cannot live with that ending. It was totally too good to be true. It's a great read though, I'm sure you would like it too :)
