- Synopsis: When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her. Never ask about the past. Don’t expect a future. They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all. Hearts get infiltrated. Promises get broken. Rules get shattered. Love gets ugly.
- Well, what can I really say about a popular novel that almost everyone seems to love? I'm with the majority on this one, it is officially my MOST favorite novel of Colleen's work, it even beat Maybe Someday for me. Tates meet Miles, she wants him but he is a no relationships kind of man. Soon, they began an arrangement: a no strings attached relationship. Miles only had two rules: never ask about the past, and don't expect a future. Obviously, sooner or later someone in the relationship starts to get attached and we're all doomed. The characters were amazing & the plot was almost perfect. Ugly Love has been on my TBR for quite sometime now, this is probably the only CoHo novel I hadn't read before, the cover didn't catch my eyes & the title was strange. Although, I'm quite happy to state I adored and loved this novel! Tate Collins is a nursing student although, she does have an ER license, and Miles Archer is a pilot. Soon, their paths cross. When I first read the premise of this novel, I thought it might be a novel similar to Fifty Shades. The concept of the "broken guy not letting anyone in" might seem typical, but this is actually a beautiful novel - I quite liked it. I was easily lost into this novel, as the story began to unfold, Tate runs into one good-looking guy who was trying to be slick- I thought he was Miles and I prayed that it wasn't! I had enough of cocky idiots, so I'm quite happy that he was NOT Miles.
- Tate Collins.. I liked Tate, she's not portrayed as an "good girl" here. There isn't no bad boy, good girl romance here. Miles is not a player, he's actually a good guy once you get to know him. I loved Miles character, he was broken and I just wanted to cry with him.. You really can't help but feel sad with him, his character is full of mystery - and as the reader, we follow Tate and Miles. See, Miles doesn't flirt. He doesn't date. He doesn't even really live.. He's like a living corpse.
“Sometimes not speaking says more than all the words in the world.”
- He's quite yet has a brooding and intelligent nature. His character is just so damn depressing, it made me want to cry every time he even smiled.. HE NEVER SMILES. I believe I cried about three times. This is the first Colleen's novel that has actually made me cry, so of course it's going to be a full rating from my side. If the book can move me enough to cause me to tear up, then I love it.
"It's not that I don't like you, Tate… I just don't want to like you. I don't want to like anyone .
I don't want to date anyone. I don't want to love anyone."
I don't want to date anyone. I don't want to love anyone."
- There is no strings attached kind of relationship, I did like the chemistry of the characters. The more time Miles and Tate spend with each other, the more they're attracted to each other. There is slow burn, and a kind of love and hate relationship does exist. Although, some things about Ugly Love did bother me is Miles past of instant love, the flashbacks were a bit annoying sometimes, I'm guessing the past was written in non-prose, but it didn't feel like poetry. It looked more like someone indented the paragraphs. I did love the story within the actual past though. Tate and Miles romance is heart-wrenching, it's a really powerful journey and one of my favorite romances yet. It shows the ugly side of love, and no it's not obsession or abuse. It's undeniable pain and depression.
- Aahh.. the plot is just wonderful and gripping. Miles does not want to move away from his past, and that's the problem. He's still lost in this past, even if he does want to move on; he won't let himself.. His life was like a puzzle that I couldn't wait for Tate to solve. Colleen does write in an engaging manner, her writing always gets to me even if the book hasn't. She's a wonderful writer, and I quite enjoyed reading this book. It's more of an experience than an actual enjoyment though. The ending was a bit too wholesome though, it seemed too good to be true you know? I know, there are some flaws in this novel that SHOULDN'T have been there - but it's beautifully written overall. I loved this book, and of course when I love it, I can't rate it anything less than five butterflies. The perfect book shouldn't be flawless, instead despite it's flaws it should be perfect. Ugly Love is almost perfect, I believe this is Colleen's best work yet - I would really recommend checking it out. I think it's the ONLY book in the New Adult genre that has made me tear up. *sobs*
Recommended for fans of Maybe Someday, and Wrecked.

Hope you enjoy this one as much as I have :)
DeleteI am glad you were able to love this one so much! I have yet to read anything by this author but I have heard that this one is going to be a movie as well so I will be trying to read it before then for sure. And seeing as I know some of her books are hits and misses I think I will start with this one for sure as well :)
ReplyDeleteYes, this one is quite different from her other work - I think you might like this one :) It's just so depressing at times, but it does have a beautiful story.
DeleteI haven't actually read a Colleen Hoover book, but I keep seeing SO MANY positive things about her novels all around the blogosphere. I have been reading mixed reviews on this one, though, so I am glad to know you really liked it, Benish! :D
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like it really breaks out of the typical NA storyline with the bad boy made good by the good girl, and I think I would appreciate that a lot.
Miles sounds like a really tortured, broken character, and I'm pretty sure I would like him if I read UGLY LOVE. I am always drawn to those types of characters.
I am definitely thinking about picking up a Colleen Hoover book, and I might just make this one my first!
I didn't like a couple of CoHo's books before but that woman has some serious writing talent regardless, I really liked this book - It does have a couple of flaws, but if you look at everything else the novel has to offer, it's actually very intriguing and something worth experiencing. I LOVED Miles, I just wanted to cry every time he even smiled.. because he never does :( Hope you like it Chiara! *fingers crossed* aha <3
DeleteAh, I just dropped a comment on your discussion post saying I never bothered giving Ugly Love a try. I've heard extreme points about this book- some readers loved it, some didn't like it at all. I'm glad you come in the latter category. Great review!
ReplyDeleteSarika @ The Readdicts
Thank you Sarika - I hope you do try out this one for yourself & like it as much as I have :)
DeleteOh gosh, I really loved this book so much and this was my first CoHo read. I cried so much in a lot of scenes, especially for Miles. Though I thought Miles was annoying at first, because he was like a total bipolar jerk, but when I got further into the story, I felt so bad for him. I'm excited for the movie though. I'm absolutely impressed with the actor they cast as Miles. He is soooo dreamy. I hope they find the perfect Tate though. As usual, awesome review, Benish! :)
ReplyDeleteBlessie @ Mischievous Reads
I agree, this book was tear jerking, the last book I've cried in was Thirteen Reasons Why a year ago, Ugly love is a beautiful story, I'm glad I picked it up. I'm happy that you enjoyed it as well! I'm excited for the movie as well, I cannot wait -thank you for dropping by Blessie <3
DeleteI'm one of those few people who have not read Colleen Hoover and I don't know why! Tbh, I'm a bit scared to read one of her books because I feel like they're always so heartbreaking...this book included! I do know she gets rave reviews each time so I would have to read at least one of her books one day. I feel like I'll feel bad for the heroine on this though, loving someone who loves someone else. I just can't even! Lovely review, as always, Benish!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Amir - her books are mostly wonderful, I would recommend trying out Ugly Love and Maybe Someday - They're my favorite books of her <3 & I agree, I felt bad for Tate here.. She was like a doormat sometimes but Miles character was heart-breaking :(
DeleteI'm really glad to see that you enjoyed this one Benish! I actually bought a copy of this book soon after its release date, because of the promising reviews it was receiving, but I still haven't been able to pick it up, but I hope when I do I end up enjoying it just as much as you did. Lovely review! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jasprit <3 I quite loved this book, it's my most favorite book of Colleen's. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have, I hope to hear your thoughts on it soon :)
DeleteIt was a bit too mature for me but it was really good nonetheless :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you could relate!
DeleteStill haven't read any of hers, though they are out of my comfort zone, but read positive and negatives reviews for this, so I think I would enjoy it, although sounds like the romance would annoy me a bit, glad you loved it though! :D
ReplyDeleteI really did love the romance in this movie, although I didn't like when at some parts Tate was like a doormat - I hope you like this one as much as I have :)
DeleteI haven't actually read any books by Colleen Hoover, but this one has been garnering lots of praises and I'm wondering which book to try first. This sounds like I better have my *feels* ready to be tossed about. So glad you enjoyed this - any book that can make you cry and have those intense emotions is one that has earned its place.
ReplyDeleteWonderful review, Benish!! Have a wonderful weekend :)
Thank you, hope you're having a great weekend as well - Ugly Love is an amazing book, I cannot describe how amazing it really was - you should pick up a book by her's soon! Ugly Love, and Maybe Someday are my favorites!
DeleteBelieve it or not this was my first full length novel by this author and now I just can't get enough of her! I loved it! So happy you did as well. :)
ReplyDeleteAha aw we're complete opposites here, this is the last novel I picked of hers - I'm glad I did though, it's a wonderful book.
DeleteI'm not a CoHo fan but I'm glad that you found the book that affected toy in such a powerful way, Benish!
ReplyDeleteThank you for dropping by Lucia!
DeleteI NEED to read this, I haven't read many books in this genre in general, or anything by Hoover so I am even more curious. I love your review though, it makes me want to get my hands on this really soon!
ReplyDeleteAw thank you so much Alise - I hope you enjoy this much as I have! Thank you for dropping by <3
DeleteI feel like I have read amazing reviews on this one for so long that I should have read it by now. I need to get into Colleen's work soon and this is the best way to start!
ReplyDeleteMissie @ A Flurry of Ponderings
You should - I would really recommend Ugly Love & Maybe Someday the most, they're my favorite works of her.
DeleteGreat review! I absolutely LOVED this one! It's my favorite CoHo....so far anyway lol. Tate and Miles were so great, and everything with Miles' story *sobs* I just can't even. I still haven't wrote my review because of it.
ReplyDeleteAw yes, I'm hoping you really like that book as well, I'm hoping to hear your thoughts on it soon :)
DeleteI think I wanted to read this book, but never got around to it. Something about Hoover's books get... repetitive. It's probably just me and my preferences. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, Benish!
ReplyDeleteAwesome review!
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
The plot twists in her novels are sometimes predictable, but there aren't any twists in Ugly Love. It's an extraordinary love story though.
DeleteYour review is excellent and has really made me want to check this out! Tears when reading a book means its obviously very powerful x
ReplyDeletewww.bohemianmuses.blogspot.com
Thank you so much Jade, hope you enjoy this read x
DeleteI haven't read any Colleen Hoover novels yet, but after this review, I sure plan to start! I think I might have one on one of my bookcases somewhere :) Great review!
ReplyDelete- Wattle @ Whimsical Nature

DeleteI am so glad you loved this one! I bought Ugly Love last week at he urging of my blogging buddies and omg I cannot wait to read it! Great review, Benish!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sarah! This is one of the best love stories out there, I sobbed like a baby. Hope you enjoy it<3
DeleteI absolutely loved Ugly Love! It made me cry as well, I even still remember the chapter that broke me down, and had me wailing like a baby lol. Colleen Hoover is one of those authors that I have on my auto-buy list, even though Ugly Love, Never Never, and Slammed are the only books I've read so far. I plan on reading Confess and Maybe Someday next month, and hopefully I enjoy them as well. So glad you liked this as much as I did Benish :)
ReplyDeleteAha aw I know, I didn't really have a breakdown crying but a lot of tears came in the way - it is rather stingy and heartbreaking at some parts. I think you might like Maybe Someday, Confess had a unique concept too - thank you for dropping by Martika!
DeleteWow, your fav from all her work? Now that is saying something. So going to read this one.
ReplyDeleteYes Jennifer! I really liked this one, even more than Maybe Someday :) Hope to hear your thoughts on this sometime!
DeleteOk, you totally convinced me, I seriously want to read this book! I love how it shows the ugly side of love without you finding it abusive or obsessive, I feel like so many books mix the two and it's like it's too much! Thank you for the awesome review, can't wait to read this one! :)
ReplyDeleteYay Katie! I'm glad I sold you on this one, I really hope you do enjoy it. I think it's a pretty fantastic book :) It is rather depressing but I adored it regardless.
DeleteYes Benish, I listened to this one on audio and so enjoyed it. I am glad you did too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, likewise !
DeleteI haven't read any of her works before, and if this one is your favorite, then it definitely worth a shot in my book. I'll have to check it out. A slow burn romance? Even better. I'm over instas.
ReplyDeleteDreams @ Once Upon A Dream Books
Yes, I really liked it! It's not insta love, more like insta lust after a couple of meetings lol the actual love comes later :) I hope you enjoy it !
Deletegreat review, I have always wanted to read Colleen Hoveer books but don't way didn't yet and I have all her books :D which one should I start with ...
ReplyDeleteThank you Alreem - You should start with Ugly Love, then start Maybe Someday :) Her book Confess was okay too, I didn't like it that much but the concept is fantastic.
DeleteOuff, I have a feeling this will be an emotional read... but I think I'm ready for it. After finishing Confess by CoHo, I'd like to read more of her novels :) Fantastic review, friend!!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is pretty depressing - it doesn't have the same stereotypes as her previous books though, I hope you really enjoy it Lola :)
DeleteColleen Hoover is that one author I should get to reading soon because her stories seem to encompass the really intense and deep ones. Ugly Love doesn't have cheating, right? I read her Maybe Someday had a cheating aspect and that made me super hesitant to try it out. In any case, this one was loved by many of my friends, too, and I can just already feel the intensity of Miles' brokenness from this post. I wonder what it's like to read that much emotional outburst and in the from of mere words, too? I have to read this obviously to find out :)
ReplyDeleteFaye at The Social Potato
Ugly Love has no cheating, they're actually two love stories. One in the past, and one in the future with both different female characters. I really liked it more than Maybe Someday, hope you enjoy it though :) Thank you for dropping by Faye<3
DeleteYay!! I LOVED this one too. I loved how it was no good girl, bad boy thing about it, just two characters who were trying to find their way. And the no strings attached relationship was never gunna work! I want to go back and read it now!!
ReplyDeleteNaomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace
Haha aw yes! It's a book that you can re-read again, but it makes you sob like a baby </3 Happy to hear you loved it as well!
DeleteLooooooved this book so much! This and Maybe Someday are some of my favorite Hoover books! SO glad you loved this one too!
ReplyDeleteYES, glad you agree Nereyda! Maybe Someday is my second favorite after this one :)
DeleteYou write some of the best reviews ever.
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
