Synopsis: Fiona Lavender is the new girl at school. She has a chip on her shoulder and a penchant for poetry. Dario Martinez is the star quarterback, and the most unattainable guy on campus.

Their stars cross when they are paired to study Romeo and Juliet for a senior English project. Their attraction is fragile and undeniable. But, Dario is afraid of what love will do; and Fiona is waiting for love to claim her.

Will they uncross the stars and find the love they both need to heal their pasts?

  • I thought of posting a Valentine's Day post using this romantic novel I've recently read. Uncross The Stars has a beautiful cover, and the premise actually sounded interesting when I first read about it. Fiona Lavender is the new girl starting at school, Dario Martinez is the star quarterback. I do like the concept of the popular guy at school with the new girl, it is cliche - but it never seems to get old. Dario is not the high school jerk or a bad guy, he's actually good and he has never had a girlfriend before. He's actually afraid to fall in love because of his tragic past.
  • I did believe that I would like this novel, however, the beginning of the novel was a bit slow, and it was difficult to attain my attention on the words. It did picked up it's pace on the third chapter. I finished this novel within two hours, it's not as long as it could have been.
  • There wasn't any real mention of Fiona's past, it was mainly focused on Dario's. Moving further, of course every story needs a villain, Ryan is Dario's best friend but he's secretly planning against him to steal his position as quarterback for the school. I wasn't a huge fan of the characters Ryan and Meagan - they both had negative roles, and betray their best friends. Meagan seemed to go along with everything Ryan would say, I really dislike when some women believe they can make someone fall in love with them if they do whatever that person wants. It reminded me of Mean Girls.
  •  I'm not sure if I understood the ending correctly though, that part was a bit unclear, and I was left confused what to make of it. Uncross The Stars is like a typical Young Adult book, it did have it's good parts though.  The second half of the novel is much better than the first half. The dialogue at some parts was cheesy and eyerolling - however, I did appreciate the love between Fiona and Dario. It wasn't exactly like Romeo and Juliet, but it was pure and respectful. Overall, the actual story isn't anything different from what I have read before.

Recommended for fans of Falling For Hadie, and Mean Girls

  2. I actually just finished reading this book yesterday, on Valentine's of course. I read it in one sitting as well because it went really quickly. I actually liked this book a lot and loved it! I thought that yes, it was a bit cliché and the beginning, first 100 pages, was a bit slow and typical, but the second half of the book was much better! I also think that Maegan was very annoying and naïve - I couldn't stand her. And Ryan made me so frustrated...

  3. It is a bit annoying when a book confuses you, it takes the whole enjoyment out of it. Shame it was just an ok read for you.
