Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James.

A New York Times Bestseller.

Now a Major Motion movie releasing in 2015.

SAY WHATTTTTT???

I can't understand how a book such as fifty shades reached high popularity. I'm a book geek and I adore books, but I've read this book and couldn't believe what I had just read .. It is utterly repelling and completely unrealistic.

Let's start with the book cover, It looks dark and matches the title of "grey." I just realized a few hours ago, the word is actually "Grey" who is one of the protagonists and it wasn't the color gray, although it does relate to each other. He's one black&white kind of person. Silly me but I love the title. Moving on, the tie there makes no sense to me, handcuffs would have looked more convincing.

I decided to read fifty shades when everyone was raving abut it and said its a "great book." I thought I might like since it happened to be quite popular and it happened to be "good."

So I purchased a copy.
BIG MISTAKE.
My $12.98 wasted. I was left with complete shock and this book screwed my mind over.

Make some room for whips & chains! This is what it is "in" nowdays!

The beginning was good. I'm not going to spoil it for you, not my style. It was interesting so I continued reading it but then it went down hill..  This was basically a dirty, pornographic novel with more erotic scenes and a poor storyline. The story line was missing. I don't really understand what this whole obsession with BDSM is - I don't see anything wrong with it though, it's perfectly normal if it's mutual consent.

However, I feel like the character Christian Grey was manipulative and extremely selfish. He was not a dominant, that's an insult to dominates if he was. He was a sadist. He literally abused Anastasia Steele He whipped her and spanked her to the point where she started crying. That crosses the line of BDSM, that it not normal. This was not a healthy BDSM relationship. That's abusing your power now.  I don't see why Anastasia couldn't be the dominant either, from what I have read about BDSM - both partners can portray the roles of either dominant and submissive, however Grey over here only wanted to be dominant. What does that say about him? He considers women inferior and wants them to submit to him? Sexist. He never physically forced anyone, I'd give him that, but he does emotionally manipulate Ana.

Anastasia seems like a nice girl but some of her choices declare her as an idiot.
The mental and physical trauma he puts Anastasia through is terrible, but she's even more idiotic for still wanting someone like him. Her subconscious HIDES when she gets beaten up but disapproves of the sexual relationship she has with Grey? Ana reminds me of a puppet, in fact she is a puppet. They break up, they kiss up, they break up, they make up .. Confused "couple."

Also, someone please explain to me how a virgin had multiples orgasms in one night and was such an expert in fellatio? That is .. just the most dumbest thing I have ever heard. It is impossible. It's extremely rare a virgin even orgasms on the first time, much less has multiple orgasms. She was completely pure, never kissed and never even masturbated before. It wasn't supposed to be like that.. I have no problem if people like these books, as long as they can tell fiction from real life.

My main issue is this leads to unrealistic expectations especially in teenage girls. I've seen Girls with Instagram bio's saying "I want my own Christian Grey." Like, you're only 15 ..

This book or series is a fail. There's many great books similar to this and much better with an actual great story. I would recommend you check out these two amazing books:

1) Captive in the Dark (The Dark Duet Series) by C.J Roberts - book about a girl who gets abducted. It is similar to what BDSM portrays BUT the girl is forced to submit and bonds with the kidnapper. This book makes Fifty Shades look like kids play. This book is real.
2) Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas -  Girl abducted and forced to play mind games with food and torture.

Fifty Shades of Grey blew my mind away, not because it contained BDSM but because that's all it had! Where was the actual story?? The characters are the two biggest idiots ever.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.

A New York Times Bestseller.
Completed version of the series done in movies.

AGAIN, WHYYYYYYYY???

Twilight is a lot better than Fifty shades of Grey, it is a book for a teenager though.

Let's start with the cover, interesting name although, I don't know why it's called twilight. I absolutely love that cover! It's one of my favorite covers. I love the whole Adam and Eve story it's portraying, the forbidden apple that leads them to sin. Just like they were forbidden to eat from the Garden of Eden, Edward and Bella were forbidden to fall in love, Stephanie Meyer is a genius or whoever that came up with this cover is.

Pretty and creative covers doesn't make up for everything though. It's a pretty overrated book as well. I love the whole concept about humans and vampires falling in love. Books about supernatural things amaze me, It's so daring and forbidden. I picked up this book for the same reason, it was highly popular, so I wanted to read it.
Guess what?

I stopped at Chapter 2 and closed it..

The gook geek in me felt guilty for not finishing the book so I continued to read it. It could have been a good book, but it failed for me. There's been so many better books written then this, why is this one at the top? It just seems like an ordinary human/vampire romance with nothing remotely interesting again.

Edward Cullen is dreamy, I love that Robert Patterson played him. It couldn't have been played by someone more better, he's so posh and classy - similar to Edward. It's just super creepy how he watches her when she sleeps when she didn't even know him. That's stalkerish behavior.

I find it extremely hard to believe vampires are human loving and VEGETARIAN!
You can't love every human as your own, I understand when vampires and humans fall in love - it's just one person they love, not the whole human race! Very unrealistic

hated Bella in the book and the movie. I'm not a huge fan of Kristin Stewart, she's pretty much expressionless. Bella is so self-centered, clingy, and annoying. She mainly liked Edward because he was hot, very unfair that she got the hot guy when she is supposed to very "plain looking" in the book. How are you plain looking when you have sooo many guys falling for you?? Bella, you must be OUT OF YOUR MIND to love a vampire, couldn't you find a human to love?? He could literally eat you alive.

I believe she trusted him and he's a good man, so he wouldn't hurt her.
AND which vampire sparkles in the sun?

Dare to say, I LAUGHED.  HA!
You're supposed to burn and turn into ash or something but you're like a Diamond in the skyyyyyyyy.

VAMPIRES DON'T SPARKLE!

I felt like this book could have potential but it was lost, the storyline seems like everyday vampire romance. I didn't find it interesting to read. There's many supernatural, vampire fiction similiar to Twilight but much better. I would recommend these amazing books:

1) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead - Half humans/Half Vampires trained to protect the royal Vampires & become Guardians, it has forbidden romance between the guardians - my favorite vampire fiction book( Now a motion movie)

2) Bloodlines by Richelle Mead - You would need to read Vampire Academy series to read this, its a spin off series about humans falling in love with vampires.
3) House of Night by P.C Cast & Kristin Cast - Humans get marked and become vampires, humans/vampire romance.

Fifty shades of Grey and Twilight just happen to be almost everyone's favorite books, but I'm not a fan of them. Twilight is a lot better than Fifty Shades but both are over hyped ..

Maybe, I'm the strange one.

I wouldn't want to be with a creepy vampire or be abused by a sadist.

  7. Couldn't agree with you more! I read 50 shades because I had to, and your review nailed it! I will confess I did use to love Twilight, but I have since grown up and the books now bug me.

  8. Ah such a shame you couldn't like either of these books! I haven't tried fifty shades of grey and again, I am not sure that I really want to either >.> But I do LOVE twilight myself. Although the concept of vampires is weird I do like the idea of it being well, so unique. I didn't mind Bella, loved Edward although the watching sleep thing IS creepy. The second book was boring because it introduced the love circle and Edward was gone, but otherwise I loved them all <3 And the movies <3
