World War II has ended and all over the world, young women are beginning to fulfill the promises made to the men they wed in wartime. In Sydney, Australia, four women join 650 other war brides on an extraordinary voyage to England—aboard HMS Victoria, which still carries not just arms and aircraft but a thousand naval officers. Rules are strictly enforced, from the aircraft carrier’s captain down to the lowliest young deckhand. But the men and the brides will find their lives intertwined despite the Navy’s ironclad sanctions. And for Frances Mackenzie, the complicated young woman whose past comes back to haunt her far from home, the journey will change her life in ways she never could have predicted—forever

Jojo Moyes is a fantastic author, and how lucky I am to receive an ARC of her book! I always enjoy reading her books especially Me Before You.  The author has grasped the concept of The Ship of Brides since her grandmother was one of the brides herself, it makes the book more legit as well. This is a true story. The title itself motivated me to read this book, I liked reading the book start to end.  It was quite slow in the beginning though, and confusing at some parts.

I began to enjoy it when one of the characters had actually began to board the ship. The four main protagonists contrast from one another in several ways, but their stories, thoughts, and hopes draws a reader in. There is Maragret, Avice, Joan, and Frances. This saga engages you since it has an interesting story line. The author does not fail to disappoint. It's a romance novel *giggles*
The characters are diverse and their experiences differ from one another - It's a compelling read with superb characters. This book does a great exploration and it is well researched. It provides a balance of the four characters so it does not become too much. This is a romance novel, but it is much more than love. I had never heard of these brides before and this actual movement about these war brides. I was unaware of it.

This is a great work of historical fiction, the romance in the book was quite enjoyable as well. It was beautifully written with a promising start -The book did seem too long and slow at times. However, it is a good read that many people would like if they had read her previous work.

Disclosure: The book, The Ship of Brides was sent free of charge from Penguin Books in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis: New York Times bestseller— They had nothing in common until love gave them everything to lose . . .

Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life—steady boyfriend, close family—who has barely been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex–Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel—and now he’s pretty sure he cannot live the way he is.

Will is acerbic, moody, bossy—but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, she sets out to show him that life is still worth living. A Love Story for this generation, Me Before You brings to life two people who couldn’t have less in common—a heartbreakingly romantic novel that asks, What do you do when making the person you love happy also means breaking your own heart?

Holy .. I have not cried as much in a novel these days as I have in this one. This is probably one of the most perfect and original books out there. It is one of the cutest & heartbreaking books ever - I don't want to gush too much, but I loved this book from the first chapter. I had purchased it from my bookstore since it's a highly popular read. It is about Louisa who seems average, but her curvy body is emphasized a lot. Will is a man who is in a wheelchair. In the synopsis, it states he has shocking plans of his owns. I didn't want to think this, but the thought that automatically came into my mind was euthanasia

A paralyzed man with shocking plans ..  I have always been against suicide, and I don't like encouraging willful suicide, but when someone is paralyzed it makes me re-consider everything I believe in. It's easy to say one shouldn't commit suicide, but we aren't in their situation. I do still believe one should be stronger, but I don't like to judge. Of course, being in a wheelchair can teach you to be more humble, and giving - but it can be more depressing than anything.. Imagine being aware that you cannot move at all.. It makes me feel that people, including myself take things for granted such as, hugging a person, dancing, eating, and moving in general. It seems so little to us because we're used to getting it..

I was a babble mess at the end of this novel, it depresses me but teaches me to be more grateful and enjoy life while I can.  It's an incredible novel. Louisa and Will are complete opposites, their romance was uplifting and inspiring. Will's choices weren't inspiration to me; they were signs of weaknesses, but the love they had between each other was amazing. It started off as Will disliking Louisa, because he did not want another caregiver. He was used to being independent before, and now he has completely given up on his life. Louisa tries to bring the little joys of the world back into his life.

I loved both of their characters. I would have liked an alternate ending, but the ending it had was sufficient enough. This is one of THE best novels to be ever written, I would love to see a movie of this. This was a painful novel to read, prepare tissues for yourself!

This is a heartbreaking novel that helps you re-consider your evaluation of life and helps you appreciate all the little things in life. The writing is amazing, but the book itself is perfection. This is a classic novel that is powerful. A novel everyone should read, a perfect 5 out of 5
stars.
