Synopsis: Judy Carrier takes the lead in a case that's more personal than ever.  Judy has always championed the underdog, so when Iris, the housekeeper and best friend of Judy's beloved Aunt Barb, is found dead of an apparent heart attack, Judy begins to suspect foul play.  The circumstances of the death leave Judy with more questions than answers, and never before has murder struck so close to home.In the meantime, Judy's own life roils with emotional and professional upheaval.

She doesn’t play well with her boss, Bennie Rosato, which jeopardizes her making partner at the firm.  Not only that, her best friend Mary DiNunzio is planning a wedding, leaving Judy  feeling left behind, as well as newly unhappy in her relationship with her live-in boyfriend Frank.Judy sets her own drama aside and begins an investigation of Iris’s murder, then discovers a shocking truth that confounds her expectations and leads her in a completely different direction.  She finds herself plunged into a shadowy world of people who are so desperate that they cannot go to the police, and where others are so ruthless that they prey on vulnerability.  Judy finds strength within herself to try to get justice for Iris and her aunt -- but it comes at a terrible price.

I have read past books of Lisa Scottoline, and I find her books quite good especially the writing. Betrayed is a book that moves in a quick and fast pace, it has enough plots and twists to make a reader go insane, in a good way of course. The plot is revolved around Judy Carrier's aunt's beloved friend's unusual death. Her death seems to be a murder that someone or something caused. The murdered individual is Iris, and Judy who happens to be a lawyer takes upon the case.

  • This novel can be read as a standalone alone; but it has a cliffhanger, you have to read the third book in the series to find out what happens next. I really like the ending though, it was quite clever! I had no problem picking up the story-line, and I had not read the previous book. It's a thriller that I overall enjoyed beginning to the end.
  • Sometimes, it can be hard for me to get into a book, but in this case it was quite easy. The writing is engaging, and encourages the reader to turn the page. It is an entertaining book, and it is quite emotional as well. My favorite character would have to be Judy, she was more of incredible investigator than an actual lawyer though. Detectives and lawyers aren't the same thing. Lawyers talk more and detectives are more in action, but I guess, when the police can't do their work right sometimes you have to do something. My least favorite favorite character would be Judy's boyfriend Frank. Their relationship was disturbing,  and he was quite annoying at some parts.
  • This is more of a personal tale than I would have liked it be. It is about Judy who's a lawyer and apparently now a investigator, it deals with personal issues ranging from her boyfriend Frank to her aunt. It's worth reading although it had minor flaws. So what's the betrayal? Well, you're going to have to read this book to find out! The cover justifies the novel well.
