Mini Reviews #8 ♥ The Heir, Saint Anything, Dangerous Girls and more.

The Heir
Kiera Cass
Genre: Dystopian, YA
Source: Personal Kindle Purchase
Thoughts: I shall be doing mini reviews today of hyped books, mini reviews are getting pretty popular these days so here's to hoping we find some gems in stones. Well, hello beautiful cover.. and hello to the worst heroine I have read this year. Eadlyn is stubborn, she is shallow, snobby, ignorant, judgemental, and just .. awful. She is the daughter of America Singer and Prince Maxon. I'm not sure who she relates to more, because her parents are sweethearts. I understand America was poor, and Eadlyn is born into royalty, but still she's so conceited. Eadlyn doesn't want to be a queen.. really? It's not a bad thing, she can make a change by becoming the first queen ever with no king besides her. I prefered the previous Selections series, at least America had spunk and fought for women's right. I didn't care for the new heroine in this series. Besides the disgusting heroine, there is another selection going on - uhm why? I thought we were done with that. There are atleast four potential male interests I see. It was quite boring, and no action really happened. I didn't even like how the ending happened as well, so typical. The only good thing about this novel is that some of the male characters made me laugh especially Henri, that's about it. I sure won't be picking up the rest of the series though. Recommended for fans of the Selection, and Red Queen.

Saint Anything
Sarah Dessen

Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Nobles | Goodreads
Genre: Contemporary YA
Source: Personal Physical Purchase
Thoughts: I've been anxiously anticipating Sarah Dessens' new release for the past year - I have read EVERY SINGLE book written by her atleast 5 times. I couldn't help but be disappointed by this novel, it had potential to be so much more especially with it's concept.. Sydney is a teenager who feels invisible around her star brother Peyton. Peyton is now serving a jail sentence after a drunk driving accident that paralyzed a young boy's knees. She feels more for the victim in the accident than her own brother.. and she is right. I would feel the same as well, I wouldn't support my brother in every choice he has made. Honestly, drunk driving is never a mistake though, it's a choice. It can be avoided if you DON'T DRIVE DRUNK. The novel focuses more on the family conflict than the actual romance which was a nice change because previously, the author's books are more romance focused. I would have liked to see more emotional impact with the brother, it was a bit dull. I found the romance boring though, it didn't interest me, I found some myself actually skimming some pages. It's a decent read, but it could have been so much more. The author's new book doesn't have the same spark as my favorites The Truth about Forever, and Just Listen. It's better than her last novel though The Moon and More.

That Night
Chevy Stevens

Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Nobles | Goodreads
Genre: Adult, Thriller
Source: Review Copy was sent free of charge via St. Martin's Press.
Thoughts: The concept of this novel was intriguing enough to read this novel, but I was just disappointed in it. Toni Murphy and her boyfriend Ryan are released from jail after serving a sentence for fourteen years for the crime of murdering her own sister Nicole. It was a crime they did not do it though or so they say, and on the behalf of false testimonies - they were sentenced.  The testimonies shouldn't have been trusted so easily though, there was no real hard evidence to back up their claims. Now they're seeking for the actual killer and they want to deliver actual justice. The first half is quite childish and immature, it's just about girl on girl hate for apparently no good reason. Ultimately, this was a predictable novel, I could see who the killer was from a mile away. I couldn't really connect with any of the characters, I liked Ashley the most though. The premise was not executed as well as I would have wanted it to be. Recommended for fans of Lacy Eye and Criminal.

The Infinite Moment of Us
Lauren Myracle

Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Nobles | Goodreads
Genre: Contemporary mature YA
Source: Review Copy was sent free of charge via Abram Books. Thank you Emily.
Thoughts: I was quite excited to read this novel after reading the premise, and the cover is gorgeous. I'm with the majority on this novel, it just didn't work for me. Wren Gray seems to have the perfect life all planned out, but what happens when perfection isn't what you're looking for now? I believe if life was so perfect, it would be boring. Let's say you're planning out a perfect day out with your partner and it begins to rain. I find that more fun now, sometimes unexpected surprises can be pleasant. Now, Charlie Parker is our bad boy who has been in love with Wren. Honestly, I'm not sure how you can be in love with someone when you never had a conversation with them EVER. That's like basically falling in love with the image you have of them. There is insta love, the romance didn't click for me. As for the rest of the story, I do like the emphasis on family conflict in the novel, it kept the story going on. However, the writing is quite anti-feminist and also sexist. This writing talks about sticking with gender roles and doing behavior associated with them, "act like a woman" or vice versa, that's not cool. There's clearly no feminism in this novel, which is fine if you're a submissive woman but this was too much. A woman can be submissive to her partner, but she can also make her own decisions and choices. It is a quick and entertaining read though. Recommended for fans of Forever by Judy Blume.

Dangerous Girls
Abigail Haas
Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Nobles | Goodreads
Genre: Thriller, mature YA
Source: Personal Physical Purchase
Thoughts: Personally, I prefer this cover over the other two book covers. This isn't a hyped book, it's actually quite underrated and I'm surprise why. This is the best thriller novel I have ever read in my lifetime. It has everything a good thriller novel should: mystery, intensity, surprises, and darkness. This is a  dark and intense read about female friendships, Anna, Tate, her best friend Elise and a few other friends are on vacation in Aruba. Elisa is murdered in the cabin, and the number one suspect is Anna. The writing is just so compelling and mysterious of this novel, you can't really help but believe Anna is innocent. She doesn't lie to the reader about her innocence. There are so many twists and turns during the way, I read this novel in one setting. The ending was so shocking yet amazing though, I think that's what mainly is driving those five star reviews. It's a great novel overall, but I would have prefered a little more darkness you know. It could have been suited more for adults books.. I would really suggest you pick this gem of a novel up! It's best to go blind in this novel. Recommended for fans of Dangerous Boys and Emancipated.

    1. I adored Dangerous Girls, I so need to read Dangerous Boys now! Great mini reviews! I need to read a few of these myself but I might pass on the ones you rated lower. I don't have time for only so so reads right now.

    2. Good Lord, girl. You are on fire lately! I mean, I know these are mini-reviews, but man. That's still 5 books! I honestly never had any interest with Kiera Cass' Selections series, so I'm glad I didn't even give it another thought. I do want to read Dangerous Girls someday, so it makes me happy you liked it.

    4. The Infinite Moment of Us has a pretty cover, but there is no way I'm picking it up now. The sexism sounds unbearable; I'd just get angry and end up chucking it across the room. Sad to hear about the Heir; I've heard a lot of complaints about Eadlyn's character and it's not making me hopeful...but I'll probably still read it because of my love for the first three books. Dangerous Girls sounds amazing, I'm going to pick it up as soon as I can find a copy to read! Great reviews. :)

      1. Yes, the Infinite Moment of Us does have sexism, at first I mostly ignored the negative reviews and I still wanted to give it a try - the reviews were right though. Thank you & I hope you enjoy Dangerous Girls ♥

    5. Dangerous Girls definitely draws my interest. I'm not much of a thriller or suspense reader, but I am curious about the character. And I love Sarah Dessen and I have been wanting to read Saint Anything. Sad to read it just wasn't as good as you wanted. But I'll still definitely give it a try :) In all honesty, I'm glad I never picked up The Heir... It just doesn't sound like a book for me. :(

      Lovely reviews!

    6. YES TO ALL OF THIS!

I absolutely adored (and by adored I mean my brain was completely blown and twisted and tortured by) Dangerous Girls. Such a well-written and intense read, and I'm glad you liked it as much as I did. It's really a shame that it has been so underhyped because it really is wonderful, you know?

And about The Heir - I wasn't planning on reading that one anyway because I didn't like The Selection, but your review has solidified my opinion. It sounds so stereotypical and unoriginal. *sighs*

Thanks for sharing Benish and fabulous reviews! ♥

    8. WOOHOO! Dangerous Girls!!! Wasn't it just lovely and thrilling? When I read that book my mind was literally on fast forward due to the adrenaline from reading it! Haha. And so disappointing to read about The Heir... isn't the premise pretty much redundant already? It's already been done, The Selection, so why is being done again? ~_~

    9. A lot of books here! I have heard a lot of things about Dangerous Girls and it looks like a thriller than really knows how to build suspense, so I do want to try that one at some point. As for Saint Anything I am not sure because I have really hated the two Sarah Dessen books I have read. Maybe I will still try it? Not sure here. As for The Heir it's a shame you couldn't enjoy it as much as the original series :(

      1. Hmm Saint Anything is more drama focused than the actual romance which is a great thing. Have you read The Truth about Forever and Just Listen? Those are my favorites of her ♥ The Heir was quite disappointing.. I didn't like it at all.

    10. AHHH I'M SO PLEASED YOU LIKE DANGEROUS GIRLS. That book absolutely sent my head spinning. No joke! I full on slammed it shut and screeched! XD It was perfection and entirely unsung. I'm a bit sad about Saint Anything, but three stars isn't awful so I'll probably still give it a go! (I'm super curious.) I've only read The Selection and I do want to continue, I'm just worried about the amount of fluff. hehe.

Thrillers should be more like that, it was truly an enjoyable book that screwed my mind ever lol ♥ Saint Anything wasn't that bad, but it doesn't come close to the authors previous books. The new Selection spin off is just terrible, maybe you might like it more than me?

    12. Yeah, I've never read Te Selection, and don't plan on it, so definitely not going anywhere near that spinoff.
Yeah, seriously. Preach that. I have no sympathy or patience with anyone who drinks and drives-even if it's my family- because no. Just. No. Sure, if you want to endanger your own life, go ahead, but you're endangering other people's lives who don't have any choice in the matter. And yay for it focusing more on the family dynamics, I would've been so disappointed if it focused on the romance when it has that serious issue to explore.
DANGEROUS GIRLS. I loved this, but there was something missing for me, probably the surprise, mainly because I picked up on the hints and because of reading Dangerous Boys, though it's totally different in nature.

      1. I'm glad you could agree Kristy! I'm glad the romance wasn't the main focus in Saint Anything but I'm still disappointed in it because the issue of drunk driving wasn't really addressed - it's mentioned but there's barely any exploration on it. It's wrong on many levels, I don't buy that the drunk driver is ever a victim, I don't care what excuse they have for drink driving - they always had a choice to not drive drunk. If you redeem yourself and accept your mistakes, then that's a different thing. Let me stop before this becomes a essay lol The Selection series was okay but more romance focused. I did prefer the previous series than this one though, thank you for dropping by ! ♥

I've avoided Keira Cass's books ever since she went apeshit over a bad review. :/

I've only read one Sarah Dessen - The Truth About Forever - which I absolutely loved. Need to catch up on her other stuff.

I'm really surprised that there isn't a lot of hype surrounding Dangerous Girls, either! It's such a fantastic book. The ending was INSANE. So, so happy that you ended up enjoying this! <3

    17. I so sad to hear you didn't enjoy The Heir, I recently read the first book in the series and really enjoyed it, but I've been seeing a lot of reviews aroudn who say that the Heir was less enjoyable than the first 3 books. America and Maxon are both such likable characters, that I can't imagine how their daughter isn't. I was looking forward to see the selection from the other point of view, but maybe I should just read the first 3 books and stop there. I have heard of most other books, but don't have them on my to-read list. Dangerous Girls sounds interesting, I don't read a lot of thriller books, but I like murder mysteries even though I don't read a lot of them. I like this style of mini reviews, it's easy to read them all and get an idea of your opinion!

    18. I totally want to read Dangerous Girls, I have wanted to for quite some time, but I never seem to be able to squeeze it into my schedule. I'll have to make an extra push. I also read The Infinite Moment of Us and while I did enjoy it overall it was disappointing. Charlie withholding information ticked me off and so did Wren's parents. I'm sort of disappointed to hear Saint Anything doesn't focus on the romance. Just Listen is my favorite Dessen as was The Truth About Forever, but I read them a long time ago. I didn't care for This Lullaby much, though and I couldn't finish The Moon and More so I'm not sure her writing works for me anymore.

    19. Completely agree with Dangerous Girls. I LOVED it, my goodness wasn't it incredible! I didn't see that twist coming at the end either. The follow up Dangerous Boys isn't all that great though, I think the ending especially really let it down. I've been putting off reading The Heir for that exact same reason, it sounds like it's just one book too many and trying to reproduce and extend the popularity of The Selection series. America Singer was annoying enough at times. I was hoping the original series would have been fighting the oppression, like a typical dystopian but it ended up just being another romance. Going to shelve that one for now and come back to it when I've got nothing else to read. Lovely reviews Benish, hopefully you enjoy your next few reads much more <3

      1. Thank you for dropping by Kelly! ♥ & I agree, Dangerous Girls had such an amazing ending! The ending was just so epic, I didn't expect that at all. In the actual Selection series, they never really fight for the oppression - it's just romance which was disappointing. The Selection still happens in the new spin off series, it's still a dystopian society which enrages me! Maybe you might like it better!

    22. Totally agree with Dangerous Girls!! And The Heir sounds SO bad from what I have heard. And also, the first line of the damn synopsis ruins the WHOLE Selection series I assume, since I know who ends up together. Nice work, whoever wrote the synopsis. And I ALMOST bought The Infinite Moment of Us this weekend, and I changed my mind, and I am SO glad I didn't buy it because NOPE. I cannot deal with a submissive woman message AT ALL. That is one thing that WILL cause me to DNF, no question. Yikes, I am glad I read your review! And everything I have heard about Saint Anything has been so... "meh". No one has loved it, no one has hated it, it's just kind of there. I think I'll be passing on it, at least for now. Fabulous reviews!

    29. A shame about The Heir! I'm really hesitant to pick up the Selection series, I have the first few books on my shelves but I've heard that America is an annoying character.

Too bad you were disappointed about Saint Anything as well, the plot sounds fairly emotional and typical and I do like how it focuses on familial conflict however, although it can conflict with your morals about the drunk driving (so true).

That Night doesn't really interest me, with such an amazing plot that could be thrilling and riveting, to be about girl on girl hate mostly would be disappointing.

Ahhh not keen on the anti-feminist, traditional/old values about females in The Infinite Moment of Us, thanks for bringing that up Benish.

    31. I haven't read the Selection Series, but have been curious about it. I'll keep in mind if I read it to skip The Heir, and just read America's stories! Saint Anything has such an interesting premise. To badd it lacked in emotional impact. With a story like this, emotion would be essential. That Night sounds like it was too dull and predictable. The Infinite Moment of us would bother me based on the sexism of women being expected to be submissive and in traditional gender roles. Dangerous Girls sounds really good!!! I enjoy an intense, dark, and mysterious thriller with surprises, and a great ending! Loved these mini-reviews :)

Not a single person who've read The Heir- or as far as I know - like Eadlyn. She really do sound like a snobby pain in the ass:)
I am sorry that you didn't like Saint Anything Benish! I am a huge Sarah Dessen fan, so I think I should avoid the book as I don't want to be disappointed by any of her books.
