Synopsis: I lived in paradise, and I loved Spencer Pierce.  At fourteen, my life was perfect. The beach was my playground, and the boy who stole my heart lived just around the corner. But perfect never lasts. In one horrifying moment, I lost it all. My family was destroyed, and the boy I believed in turned his back on me. Paradise became a nightmare. That was five years ago. Everything changed when we moved from our home by the sea. I’ve changed, and I don’t like who I’ve become. I miss the smiling, carefree beach girl who disappeared that terrible night. I want to find her again. I want to face the people we ran from so long ago. Most of all, I have to face Spencer. So I can prove that when he broke my heart, he didn’t break me. But when I see him again, Spencer Pierce is no longer the boy from my memories. He’s now a man who could devastate me if I let him. He watches me when he thinks I’m not looking. There’s regret written on his face when he’s near. Each time I see him, my heart aches for what might have been, and I think his does too. How can I convince myself I’m over him when I suspect he never got over me?

Oh, how cute this story was. It's about childhood love.. The first thing I noticed was that beautiful cover! I love the title and photograph on the cover is quite catchy. Play Of Light is one of the latest additions to the New Adult genre, and it's one of the few New Adult books that I actually like have liked so far. New Adult is one of my favorite genres, but unfortunately, most of the books have failed to impress me because of the generic stories and icky dialogues. However, this book was very promising, and I liked the concept. Sarah and Spencer are two troubled people. They grew up together for some time, a friendship developed, they fell in love, but then they drifted away .. Now, they meet again. I love the premise, it sounded amazing when I first read the description.  It seems so tragic and it engages the reader. Was the book just as good? YES! It was an easy book to read, and I enjoyed reading it.

Sometimes, a couple of parts in the novel seem too repetitive. I noticed that it's common with a lot of NA novels; you push each other away, then come back together, then it's the same drama again and again. Play of Light was a beautiful story though, but the writing wasn't a whole lot different from other NA stories. I liked it more than others though.

It had it's minor flaws, but the book itself was quite good. I liked the innocent childhood of the two characters and how they're brought together. The secrets they share with each other and the bond they had with each other was so intriguing. I liked reading their journey from being childhood friends to being much more. Play of Light is a great novel overall, it is a bit repetitive in parts - but I liked reading it. It's one of the few books that attained my attention since the first chapter. It's a beautiful story about innocent love that grows overtime, and never fades. Let's not forget the beautiful cover, it's one of my favorite covers now :) I would give this book 3.5 butterflies.

  5. I think I might pass up this one because I tend to shy away from NA as much as possible - unless I pick one up by accident and realize what it is too late! I love the cover though, because it is gorgeous. And the idea of childhood love sounds so sweet :3
