But the socially awkward Nick can’t ever seem to find the right words to tell her so, and instead, seems to push her away with his persistence in trying to have her press charges against her attacker. Nick's playboy cousin Sebastian Veneto, however, is a master with the opposite sex and is used to getting what he wants. After unwittingly helping Kendra at her most vulnerable, he discovers that his feelings for her go beyond his usual lust.

Kendra is caught between the two, the elusive artist and his dangerous cousin, both of whom are pulling her through the difficult aftermath of her near-rape in his own unique way. In the meantime, she tries to avoid the boy who attacked her, deal with rumors at school, and move on with her life. Waiting for Perfect is a story about facing the unexpected events that force us to grow up and is told through the alternating, memorable voices of Kendra, Nick, and Sebastian. This is the first of a series.

I'm really excited to review this book, I didn't expect to like it so much! When I first picked it up, I thought it would be an average read. How wrong was I though?! :D  I had to finish this novel one setting. I enjoyed it beginning to end, nowadays rarely a book captures my attention since the very first page.  This happens to be one of the few that do. Waiting For Perfect falls somewhere in between Young Adult and New Adult, but more on the NA side. It just happens to be one of the few NA novels that I like!  This novel is about love, but also abuse, friendship, and family.

  • Kendra heads to a party where someone attempted to rape her, she is saved by Nicholas(Nick) Veneto who has been love with her for years. Nick fits into the stereotype of "gothic" and he has many piercings and tattoos as well. He stands out, but seems to want to blend in with everyone else. He was clearly my favorite character in the book, although, in one dialogue, I didn't like it when he "slut-shamed" two girls dancing together. A lot of time in novels, I always see vulgar words for women, and never for men. Still, I liked this novel a lot.
  • Sebastian is the typical bad boy who seems to like Kendra more than usual. I liked that this book was more than a typical good girl, bad boy story. Waiting For Perfect challenges victim blaming and encourages speaking out against what's wrong. Sebastian also happens to Nicholas' cousin. I wasn't a huge fan of Sebastian. I was immune to his great looks and charm.
  • I didn't like it when he still went for Kendra even though he knew Nick liked her .. NO, everything's not fair in love and war. Family always comes first. Nick is so much sweeter. He kinda fits in the bad boy role too except he's more quite, gentle, and kind. Obviously, I was rooting for Nick! He was Latino as well, it's rare to see that in a novel these days.

  • Kendra had a sweet character as well, I liked that she wasn't shown as perfect as a lot of novels show the heroine. She's shown to have more wider hips and a more curvy body than the usual thin heroine. Nothing is wrong with being thin though, I'm thin. I just liked there was a story about Kendra's weight as well, and she wasn't shown as acclaimed perfection. Kendra had her flaws, but that's what made her character believable.
  • Sometimes I felt she was leading the two guys. It is a love triangle, but I'm glad this wasn't a love triangle where she's running back and forth between two guys though. Kendra was in a healthy, and stable relationship with one of them later. There's no cheating which I'm happy about! I rarely like love triangles in stories, but if the author can execute them well, it works out then.
  •  I loved reading this book beginning to end. The author Kelli Kretzschmar has done a fabulous job of writing this series. I'm a bit sad there is a cliffhanger, and I have to continue the series now to see what happens next! This was a beautiful book, it fits more into New Adult except it's not as explicit in detail.
  • I like it so much more when a novel has more than just romance. I laughed and giggled at some parts that were oh so cute. Shaming other women wasn't necessary at a couple of parts, but I'm glad in other parts, the book challenges rape myths. I would rate this 3.5 butterflies.

I have to confess, at the end of this book, I was pretty torn between the cousins too. I loved them both! The sequel No Fear of Perfection will be coming out soon. Thanks Benish Khan for the lovely feedback. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. All the best!!
