  • Synopsis: A haunting account of a teen boy who volunteers at a suicide hotline and falls for a troubled caller.Billy is a sophomore in high school, and twice a week, he volunteers at Listeners, a suicide hotline. Jenney is an “incoming,” a caller, a girl on the brink. As her life spirals out of control, Jenney’s calls become more desperate, more frequent. Billy, struggling with the deteriorating relationship with his depressed father, is the only one who understands. Through her pain, he sees hope. Through her tears, he feels her heart. And through her despair, he finds love. But is that enough? Acclaimed author Janet Ruth Young has written a stunning and powerful story with no easy answers; it is about pain and heartbreak, reality and illusion, and finding redemption and the strength to forgive in the darkest of times.

I had to read this novel once I saw it reviewed on a fellow blogger's page. I purchased it right away and started reading until I didn't finish. The premise is so interesting, and one of the most original concepts I've read yet. Let's clap for the author Janet! I have never read anything like this concept, or anything even close to it. The non-traditional approach to this novel is fab! I can't believe how underrated this novel is.

  • I wasn't sure how to feel when My Beautiful Failure ended though, but it did make me think. This is a story about two troubled teens. Billy is dealing with family issues, but he is not suicidal. As his project for school, he volunteers at a suicide hotline, and then he falls for Jenny, who is a constant caller. Billy breaks some rules at the hotline, and tries to be in more Jenny's life. His intentions were pure, but his actions might be wrong. I liked the gradual build up in their relationship. Honestly, I could never work or volunteer for a suicide hotline. Yes, I would love to save lives, but I'll probably end up depressed if I couldn't save someone's life..
  • I liked the message this book was trying to portray though. If you talk to someone who is depressed, you can't automatically think they won't be suicidal anymore because you love them. They were depressed before they even met you. I liked it when Billy's perspective of being a savior changed afterwards.
  •  I thought the concept and the story line was great, but I do feel the story lacked depth and fell flat at some parts. Billy's own drama with his family was too much at times, It could have been more shorter, and I wished Jenny's story was more longer, and more detailed. The chapters were quite short as well. I liked that it kept it suspenseful though. I would recommend reading this novel, it is really an eye opener. The concept is great, but the book lacks some depth.  It is a beautiful novel though. I liked reading it from beginning to the end. The message was amazing! This novel makes you think and makes your heart ache. I would have loved to give it five stars though but the plot development wasn't as good.  If it was more improved, I think this could have easily been one of the best novels out there. I really do hope they revise this novel one day, it's flawed but it's beautiful.

Shukran for reading this! Leave your blog links in the comments & I'll be sure to check them out & follow :) Stay in tuned pretty creatures..

  1. In spite of the very depressing theme of this novel, I would like to read it, because there IS a ray of hope in the love relationship between Billy and Jenny. And you're right -- this is indeed an original concept. I've never come across anything like this, either.

I'm like you -- I could NEVER work on a suicide hotline.... I think it takes a VERY strong person, emotionally speaking, to do that type of work, whether paid or volunteer.

Thanks for the nice review, and for featuring this book! It's going on my TBR, as well as my Amazon wish list!! : )

    1. Thank you for agreeing for me! :) I'm quite strong, but not that strong to handle the suicide hotline. This is a wonderful book, it has a unique concept, I loved this book although it lacked depth at some parts.

Hope you enjoy reading it as well :) xo

  2. Oh wow, this does sound like it is one of a kind. I haven't heard of a book like this either, and the idea of two people falling in love over a hotline and wanting to help the other when distance is in the way can be a toughie! I want to read this now as well!
