    • Synopsis: Amy is a cryogenically frozen passenger aboard the spaceship Godspeed. She has left her boyfriend, friends--and planet--behind to join her parents as a member of Project Ark Ship. Amy and her parents believe they will wake on a new planet, Centauri-Earth, three hundred years in the future. But fifty years before Godspeed's scheduled landing, cryo chamber 42 is mysteriously unplugged, and Amy is violently woken from her frozen slumber. Someone tried to murder her. Now, Amy is caught inside an enclosed world where nothing makes sense. Godspeed's 2,312 passengers have forfeited all control to Eldest, a tyrannical and frightening leader. And Elder, Eldest's rebellious teenage heir, is both fascinated with Amy and eager to discover whether he has what it takes to lead. Amy desperately wants to trust Elder. But should she put her faith in a boy who has never seen life outside the ship's cold metal walls? All Amy knows is that she and Elder must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets before whoever woke her tries to kill again.

    •  In Across The Universe, Amy is a frozen passenger abroad the spaceship Godspeed. She leaves everything behind and follows her parents as a member of Project Ark Ship. They believe they will be awaken three hundred years in the future, they will still be the same age though. However, fifty years before the ship can even land, Amy is mysteriously unplugged from her chamber. Apparently, someone tried to murder her. Elder is one of the leaders of the ship, he's the heir and he is being train by Eldest so he can lead later. Amy doesn't know who to trust or where to go.. So, she teams up with Elder to solve the mystery of the ship and find out who tried to kill her.
    •  Across The Universe has one of the most incredible covers ever, I love how they're opposite each other. The stars, the universe looks STUNNING! *Fangirls* Catchy name, beautiful cover, and amazing premise. It does sound like the perfect package. Now for the shocking part, the cover suggests YA romance, this is mainly a science fiction novel though. It doesn't have much romance, the cover is rather misleading. Of course, to attract people, you use catchy covers - who would really want to read a book with the cover of a spaceship right? I really liked this novel though, it has a brilliant concept and premise - the science fiction aspect is amazing. It did take some time for me to get into this novel though, Across The Universe is told from two different perspectives. It is a captivating novel that I thoroughly enjoyed.
    •  I liked Amy's character because she was vulnerable compared to most heroines. She has no immediate family on the spaceship, they're all strangers to her. Her parents are still safely in their chambers, she's the only one unplugged. She struggles to adapt to her new residence, and for the most part she fails terribly.

“I never thought about how important the sky was until I didn't have one.”

    • At times, her character did get a bit whiny because she kept on saying "Daddy!" She never mentions her mother though, I wonder why.. She was closer to her father, but not once does she think about her mother. Although, it's understandable in her situation. At times, I wanted to shake her - other times, I quite pitied her. You can feel her desperation and isolation - Imagine that you were forcibly taken away from your family, and you would never see them for fifty years? Elder is whiny as well, he has a strange fascination with Amy - can I scream INSTA LOVE? I don't like insta love though. I did like that he still feels the teenager pressure under him. Most people with the kind of power and control he has would misuse it. He was a refreshing character though.
    • There is barely any romance in this novel, it's mainly one sided from Elder. He has a strange fascination with Amy, apparently his teenage feelings are more stronger than hers. Unfortunately, Amy does not feel the same way .. yet. She's more focused on the mastermind on who unplugged her, and when she can unite with her family again. She doesn't seem to show much interest in Elder, whatever was left of the romance it was lacking. It's not a bad romance, but it hasn't been fully developed yet. I did like Harley though, he was a secondary character.  He was real and genuine character - I would have liked him better with Amy, but this isn't a love triangle.

“And in her smile I see something more beautiful than the stars.”

    • Across The Universe is a refreshing young adult novel, it's very strong YA with it's language, descriptions, and attempt of rape. I like that it's an original concept, the world-building plot and action was great. I didn't expect that twist and ending though, it blew my mind away! I do look forward to reading more of the series. It's one of the most original and unique YA books I have read. The romance will probably develop further onto the series so let's see, however it's a promising series of pure science fiction, and that's something difficult to create in young adult.

Recommended for fans of A Thousand Pieces of You, and A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

    1. First love the new banner. Second, the cover of this book looks so misleading and would probably get me some turned heads if I read it on the bus maybe xD! I've been hearing so much about Beth Revis and her book: The Body Electric. They seem like the kinds of books I'd be into!

    4. I really loved this book too, Benish! I can't remember too much about it since it was one of my first YA reads back in 2011, but I remember liking Amy for the same reasons. She was imperfect, and because she actually cared about who unplugged her. I hope you end up enjoying this entire trilogy as much as I did. :)

    5. I always look forward to the romance in books I won't lie so the lack of it is a little disappointing but otherwise it sounds like a decent read. Great review!

    6. So the first thing I noticed about this book was the fabulous cover! But why must there hardly be any romance *cries*. I'm kinda bummed to hear this (even a little flirting will make me happy), I'm glad you enjoyed it though! Wonderful review, Benish :)

    7. This is one of my favorite books, but I totally agree, the cover is misleading. I love the new covers so much better, it says more 'sci fi' then the original ones. Beth Revis is the queen of unexpected twists and endings, wasn't that crazy?! I hope you love the other books in the trilogy! :)

    8. It was pretty awesome, and I don't think it would be very realistic if it were more YA romance because of what she is going through in the novel. However, I too found the cover a bit misleading. This is one of the best science fiction novels I've read -- ever! Can't wait to read #2

    12. I loved A Thousand Pieces of You and I've had this recommended to me before. But woah, I really didn't expect the romance to go that way and the attempt of rape? I'll need to prepare myself for that. Wonderful review Benish!

    13. Oh, I can barely remember what happens in this book. Harley was the painter guy friend, right? If so, then I liked his character and could see your views on wanting a love triangle. (I really didn't like the love interest, that much I can recall.) If not, then I cannot remember this character and feel bad...it's sad when you feel like you've offended a fictional character because you cannot remember them.

    14. Omgosh so I never bothered to pick up this book because it seemed so cheesy and romancy. So glad to hear that it is nothing like that at all. This sounds like my kind of book, I just wish that the marketing department didn't market it as YA romance sigh. I'm so intrigued about the twist at the end, and the whole mystery of who unplugged Amy as well! Lovely review Benish, thanks for putting this back on my radar again xx

The cover is very attractive, I would be drawn to it. Just a quick guess....did Elder try to kill Amy?
I love this blog. The design is fantastic and content is great. It is so hard to find a good mix of the two.
I've recently started a blog, not as good as this one though I'll admit. Would you maybe.....give it a little look? Maybe even comment? Thanks!

    19. I read this one ages ago and liked it, but not enough to have continued on with the series really. My husband read it a few months ago and loved it, but had the same issues as you did. He couldn't stand the whining, especially from Amy. Her inner thoughts annoyed him, because she never actually expressed them to anyone else. I loved Harley's character too, he was the only likable one for me. Great review Benish, really glad you enjoyed this one <3

    20. Lovely review!

The cover for this one is absolutely beautiful! I did enjoy, but like you mentioned their were aspects that did annoy me to some degree (Amy's whining). I'm very picky when it comes to this type of Sci-Fi fantasy reads (I am a huge Sci-Fi fan) and I was really able to get lost in this book!

    22. Wow, this looks good! I have read one other book by Beth Revis, and I enjoyed it, so I was thinking about reading this one, and this review convinced me, haha! I thought there would be a lot of romance in this book from the cover as well-you are right, that is pretty misleading. Not too much romance actually kind of sounds nice though, because then I know I could focus on the plot more, which sounds really well done. Great review...and I really like your new banner! :)

    24. I read this one YEARS ago, and I never finished the series! I cannot remember much about it, except that I liked it, haha.

I remember thinking that Harley and Amy clicked a lot more than her and Elder, and I kind of shipped it as a love triangle. Alas, like you said, there is no hint of a love triangle in this book. SIGH.

I really hope you like the next books in the series, and you've definitely reminded me that I need to re-read this one and finish the story!

    25. I wanted to read this when it first came out but didn't after reading some rather less than stellar reviews, so nice to read a positive one for a change. :) I think I can forgive Amy's character for being whiny at times, since it does usually lead to character growth. I am a little apprehensive on the attempted rape though, mainly with how it's handled. So hopefully it was done well?

    30. I loved this one too. PLUS THAT COVER IS GORGEOUS. I actually want to 're read this one to continue with the series. I actually liked Elder's fascination with Amy because it was something really different from love. Amy is basically one of the first (or only I don't remember) girls he's seen and actually interacted with, which makes for a really amusing interaction.
