  • Synopsis: When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her. Never ask about the past. Don’t expect a future. They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all. Hearts get infiltrated. Promises get broken. Rules get shattered. Love gets ugly.

  • Well, what can I really say about a popular novel that almost everyone seems to love? I'm with the majority on this one, it is officially my MOST favorite novel of Colleen's work, it even beat Maybe Someday for me. Tates meet Miles, she wants him but he is a no relationships kind of man. Soon, they began an arrangement: a no strings attached relationship. Miles only had two rules: never ask about the past, and don't expect a future. Obviously, sooner or later someone in the relationship starts to get attached and we're all doomed. The characters were amazing & the plot was almost perfect. Ugly Love has been on my TBR for quite sometime now, this is probably the only CoHo novel I hadn't read before, the cover didn't catch my eyes & the title was strange. Although, I'm quite happy to state I adored and loved this novel! Tate Collins is a nursing student although, she does have an ER license, and Miles Archer is a pilot. Soon, their paths cross. When I first read the premise of this novel, I thought it might be a novel similar to Fifty Shades. The concept of the "broken guy not letting anyone in" might seem typical, but this is actually a beautiful novel - I quite liked it. I was easily lost into this novel, as the story began to unfold, Tate runs into one good-looking guy who was trying to be slick- I thought he was Miles and I prayed that it wasn't! I had enough of cocky idiots, so I'm quite happy that he was NOT Miles.
  •  Tate Collins.. I liked Tate, she's not portrayed as an "good girl" here. There isn't no bad boy, good girl romance here. Miles is not a player, he's actually a good guy once you get to know him. I loved Miles character, he was broken and I just wanted to cry with him.. You really can't help but feel sad with him, his character is full of mystery - and as the reader, we follow Tate and Miles.  See, Miles doesn't flirt. He doesn't date. He doesn't even really live.. He's like a living corpse.

“Sometimes not speaking says more than all the words in the world.”

  • He's quite yet has a brooding and intelligent nature. His character is just so damn depressing, it made me want to cry every time he even smiled.. HE NEVER SMILES. I believe I cried about three times. This is the first Colleen's novel that has actually made me cry, so of course it's going to be a full rating from my side. If the book can move me enough to cause me to tear up, then I love it.
"It's not that I don't like you, Tate… I just don't want to like you. I don't want to like anyone .
I don't want to date anyone. I don't want to love anyone."

  • There is no strings attached kind of relationship, I did like the chemistry of the characters. The more time Miles and Tate spend with each other, the more they're attracted to each other. There is slow burn, and a kind of love and hate relationship does exist. Although, some things about Ugly Love did bother me is Miles past of instant love, the flashbacks were a bit annoying sometimes, I'm guessing the past was written in non-prose, but it didn't feel like poetry. It looked more like someone indented the paragraphs. I did love the story within the actual past though. Tate and Miles romance is heart-wrenching, it's a really powerful journey and one of my favorite romances yet. It shows the ugly side of love, and no it's not obsession or abuse. It's undeniable pain and depression.
“God gives us the ugliness so we don’t take the beautiful things in life for granted.”

  •  Aahh.. the plot is just wonderful and gripping.  Miles does not want to move away from his past, and that's the problem. He's still lost in this past, even if he does want to move on; he won't let himself.. His life was like a puzzle that I couldn't wait for Tate to solve. Colleen does write in an engaging manner, her writing always gets to me even if the book hasn't. She's a wonderful writer, and I quite enjoyed reading this book. It's more of an experience than an actual enjoyment though. The ending was a bit too wholesome though, it seemed too good to be true you know? I know, there are some flaws in this novel that SHOULDN'T have been there - but it's beautifully written overall. I loved this book, and of course when I love it, I can't rate it anything less than five butterflies. The perfect book shouldn't be flawless, instead despite it's flaws it should be perfect. Ugly Love is almost perfect, I believe this is Colleen's best work yet - I would really recommend checking it out.  I think it's the ONLY book in the New Adult genre that has made me tear up. *sobs*

Recommended for fans of Maybe Someday, and Wrecked.

  3. I haven't actually read a Colleen Hoover book, but I keep seeing SO MANY positive things about her novels all around the blogosphere. I have been reading mixed reviews on this one, though, so I am glad to know you really liked it, Benish! :D

It sounds like it really breaks out of the typical NA storyline with the bad boy made good by the good girl, and I think I would appreciate that a lot.

Miles sounds like a really tortured, broken character, and I'm pretty sure I would like him if I read UGLY LOVE. I am always drawn to those types of characters.

I am definitely thinking about picking up a Colleen Hoover book, and I might just make this one my first!

    1. I didn't like a couple of CoHo's books before but that woman has some serious writing talent regardless, I really liked this book - It does have a couple of flaws, but if you look at everything else the novel has to offer, it's actually very intriguing and something worth experiencing. I LOVED Miles, I just wanted to cry every time he even smiled.. because he never does :( Hope you like it Chiara! *fingers crossed* aha <3

  4. Ah, I just dropped a comment on your discussion post saying I never bothered giving Ugly Love a try. I've heard extreme points about this book- some readers loved it, some didn't like it at all. I'm glad you come in the latter category. Great review!

  5. Oh gosh, I really loved this book so much and this was my first CoHo read. I cried so much in a lot of scenes, especially for Miles. Though I thought Miles was annoying at first, because he was like a total bipolar jerk, but when I got further into the story, I felt so bad for him. I'm excited for the movie though. I'm absolutely impressed with the actor they cast as Miles. He is soooo dreamy. I hope they find the perfect Tate though. As usual, awesome review, Benish! :)

  6. I'm one of those few people who have not read Colleen Hoover and I don't know why! Tbh, I'm a bit scared to read one of her books because I feel like they're always so heartbreaking...this book included! I do know she gets rave reviews each time so I would have to read at least one of her books one day. I feel like I'll feel bad for the heroine on this though, loving someone who loves someone else. I just can't even! Lovely review, as always, Benish!

  20. I absolutely loved Ugly Love! It made me cry as well, I even still remember the chapter that broke me down, and had me wailing like a baby lol. Colleen Hoover is one of those authors that I have on my auto-buy list, even though Ugly Love, Never Never, and Slammed are the only books I've read so far. I plan on reading Confess and Maybe Someday next month, and hopefully I enjoy them as well. So glad you liked this as much as I did Benish :)

  27. Colleen Hoover is that one author I should get to reading soon because her stories seem to encompass the really intense and deep ones. Ugly Love doesn't have cheating, right? I read her Maybe Someday had a cheating aspect and that made me super hesitant to try it out. In any case, this one was loved by many of my friends, too, and I can just already feel the intensity of Miles' brokenness from this post. I wonder what it's like to read that much emotional outburst and in the from of mere words, too? I have to read this obviously to find out :)
