  • Synopsis: “Our Dragon doesn’t eat the girls he takes, no matter what stories they tell outside our valley. We hear them sometimes, from travelers passing through. They talk as though we were doing human sacrifice, and he were a real dragon. Of course that’s not true: he may be a wizard and immortal, but he’s still a man, and our fathers would band together and kill him if he wanted to eat one of us every ten years. He protects us against the Wood, and we’re grateful, but not that grateful.” Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life. Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as falling to the Wood. The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows—everyone knows—that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia, all the things Agnieszka isn’t, and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save he. But Agnieszka fears the wrong things. For when the Dragon comes, it is not Kasia he will choose.

Top 5 reasons I want to read this:

  1. ♥The premise. Wow, how wonderful does the premise sound though? I would really love to read this one, it's a concept that is similar to other books but still unique in it's own. It's fantasy of course, and most of the time they work. This does sound a bit familiar to Richelle Mead's upcoming release Soundless. I hope when the Dragon takes women for their service, it's not because he's offering them something better. I read too many of those already and the female falls in love.. NO, I need a negative character.
  2. Beautiful Cover:  The cover is quite pretty & also a bit creepy.. It kind of reminds me of an old books' cover. The girl looks a bit ordinary, so that's refreshing that she's not insanely beautiful. I shall snag a copy of this soon!
  3. I'm eagerly awaiting for this book to come out soon, I hope it does live up to the hype of it. It has great reviews on Goodreads already and a lot of my blogging buddies enjoyed this one as well.
  4. ♥The male lead. I like the sound of anti-heroes! Wizards are pretty badass, I want to meet this wizard a.k.a Dragon. I hope there is some kind of romance here. I just hope the wizard is not some 60 year old man like one book has misleaded me..
  5. Publishing Company. It's going to be published by Random House, and usually their books are good.

Shukran for reading this! Leave your blog links in the comments & I'll be sure to check them out & drop by :) Stay in tuned pretty creatures..

    11. I hadn't heard about this one before. But that cover looks cool in a retro way and it mentions dragons. (Even if he is a wizard.) You're right, he does sound a bit antihero like, which is my favorite. So I'll have to check this book out for sure.

      Great pick!

    18. I haven't heard of this one before but it does sound really interesting. I am worried that the Dragon may turn out to be kind of like The Darkling, who I really dislike and don't find attractive in the slightest. Hopefully this one will be a little different! Thanks for sharing.

    22. I have this one as an eARC (thank you for reminding me) and the story and writing are lovely, except that it can get pretty wordy :/ It's REALLY dense, but it's okay as it was still pretty good, just a bit tiring sometimes. Hopefully you'll love this one, Benish!

    23. I don't think there will be any romance in this one or at least not with the wizard because every ten years he seeks a woman's help for service unless he's immortal and young. Because he didn't pick her friend, I'm assuming he must be looking for someone to help him with the wood. Like he picks people with a power inside maybe? I'm very interested in Uprooted. Thanks for making me aware of it. The cover is very old timey pretty (:

Although I have not featured it in any WOW post, I HAVE featured it on my "Shelf Candy Saturday" weekly meme, because that cover is SO beautiful!! But, of course, I also love the plot!
