Book Edition & Mega Haul(Non-Bea!) #11 | Goodbye May, Hello June♥

Thursday, June 04, 2015

I wanted to do this post every two weeks showcasing upcoming posts, recap, books I have read, book haul and other news!
It's inspired froStacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga’s Reviewsand the Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It will be a combination of book haul and my personal reflections.
  • May is almost over, Hello June. It's been three weeks since I last updated with my mid-monthly posts, the posts will too much so I will just highlight what were the most popular posts this May. Lots of books these past three weeks - I've already read some of these so I'll try including an update about the actual content of the book as well! Happy reading :)
  • So this past week, I've been coughing a lot, it's not that bad but I'm not sure why I even started coughing out of nowhere. My summer classes are starting tomorrow which depresses me. They only last a month though & I only have two classes: German Fairy Tales & Statistics. The course name German Fairy Tales makes me laugh though, it sounds adorable still. I have heard you actually learn about the actual true gruesome fairy tales and not the romantic and inspiring ones on Disney in this course. I shall be sharing the new knowledge very soon! I'm going to be attending four times a week from 8:00 a.m to 1 p.m. I hate morning classes. Hopefully I graduate next spring so I'm excited for that!
  • I didn't go to BEA 2015 even though I live in New York. I've never been there actually, but hey my book haul is still not bad, I get anxiety and paranoid in huge crowds and huge lines(not that serious) so let's see, maybe the next time they're held in New York - I will go. Everyone's haul is looking amazing though, I stalked them all - so many pretty books!
  • I re-watched the movie Life of Pie with my siblings. I still find the book and movie amazing. I would really recommend it. I finally watched Avengers 2, I thought it was disappointing, and it sucked mostly. The ending left me hanging as well. I found the first movie much better.
  • My birthday is coming up this Friday, I will be turning 22 years old, surprise surprise! I'm getting older by the day & people still refuse to believe I'm even 21.
4/2 Book Tour & Giveaway: Hello, I Love You by Katie M. Stout
4/3 ARC Review: The Story of Us by Dani Atkins Review
4/4 Discussion Topic & Feminist Reflections #20
4/6 Ten Mini Reviews: ImmaculateWritten In The StarsNowhere But Here, The Orphan Queen, and more.

Thank you to St. Martins Press/Griffin, Kate Publicity, Del Rey Books, and Bethany House for the review copies! I'm getting better at not requesting that many books now. A Good FamilyHearts Made WholeBorn of Defiance(a series of 8 books? Wow.. ) Uprooted(beautiful book & story 5/5!), and Brutal Youth are unsolicited copies meaning not requested.

  • Rough Justice: Oh hey biker romance, my guilty pleasure! This should be good. I love how small the book is. This book size is actually one of my favorites.
  • Hello, I Love You| What a beautiful book, this one will be popular. This is so much better than Anna and The French Kiss. 4/5
  • Killer Within| I really enjoyed this one, I'm surprised how underrated this series is. I prefer this series over I Hunt Killers. 4/5
  • Alive| Sounds like a cute, romance book, I have yet to read it.
  • Crystal Kingdom| The finale of Frostfire, this should be good - gorgeous cover. Kudos to the fantastic cover designer!
  • The Terminals| So excited to read this! The concept is amazing about terminally ill teens as spies. The setting reminds me of The Hunger Games, so this should be interesting.
I bought these three books. I had pre-ordered A Court of Thorns and Roses (3.5/5), and Saint Anything (3/5) about three months ago. I'm a bit disappointed I caved in when I have a three year physical book buying ban going on.. They were mostly good reads, but could have been better. I bought The Distance Between Us with my $10 Amazon giftcard I won from Iread Book Tours!

These are early birthday presents below from my friends! I actually choose which books I wanted, because I hate getting a book I might not like.
I do like unexpected surprises though! I haven't read any of these yet.

borrowed these books below from the library actually, I have to do a separate tag for them later, feeling lazy right now. I have read most of these already.

  • The Hunger Games| I love the books, so I'm re-reading them again. I accidentally checked out Catching Fire twice, instead of Mockingjay - I'm a genius for sure *sarcasm intended* I still prefer the movies though. 4.5/5
  • I Hunt Killers| I don't understand the hype of this series, it didn't interest me. 3/5
  • Between The Lines | I renewed this one since I didn't get to finish it last time, the first half is amazing - the second half not so much. 3/5
  • Shatter Me| I don't understand the hype of this series either, the love triangle makes me sick & it's all romance - amazing concept though. 1/5
  • Where Stars Still Shine| Beautiful cover, the first 20% was really good, then it just went downhill. 1/5
  • Snow White and The Huntsman| I loved the movie, the book fell flat for me. 3/5
  • Daughter of Smoke & Bone| I DNF this book a couple of months ago, but I do want to give it another try. The covers are so gorgeous though.
  • Life As We Know It & Panic| The concepts are intriguing, but I DNF these books. So boring. I'm disappointed because I heard so much about these books. 2/5
  • Landry Park| Stupid characters especially that heroine, she was just so frustrating - not continuing this series at all. 1/5

These aren't all the books I have read this month though, I've read 24 books this month. Yes, I read a lot I know. The best book would be a tie between The Fill in Boyfriend and Stolen Songbird. The worst would be a tie between Nowhere But Here and The Heir.

Bea 2015 has currently come to and end! So many books posts.

  4. Wow, you really got a lot of books. I do want to read Killer Within; I liked the first one. I'm quite curious about Brutal Youth. It was a WOW pick for me awhile back, I believe. haha

AW, I'm sorry you didn't do BEA since you live there. I went and it was a lot of fun, but I know what you mean about crowds. It can be a bit intense at times. It's easy to find some free space though.

  6. Yeah. Crowd's not my thing, either. I went last year for the experience, but I'm not completely writing it off. I will go back there someday, hopefully with a bit more friendlier attitude. Ha! This haul is massive. HUGE. Ginormous.

Happy reading, and have a great June!

  8. WHOA that is a HUGE haul! I think you might have gotten more books than me, and I WAS at BEA ;) I mean, I don't even know where to start because of the sheer number of books going on here! So, let's go with Happy (almost) Birthday!! That is exciting! Also, I NEED to read Uprooted! Every single person I know has been giving it 5 stars! Off to add it to my wishlist! Enjoy the books you haven't yet read, and hope you have a lovely week!

  9. What an amazing haul! In retrospect of your review copies I am curious about Uprooted and the Killer Within because I have heard quite a bit about those two. Also, I am someone who enjoyed Avengers 2 but there were a lot of things I didn't like. Everyone seems to find it amazing when I am preferring the first movie as well. It's good to know I am finally not alone there! Of Beast and Beauty and also Splintered are both books I would love to try. And Written in the Stars is a lot about culture which is why I also want to try that one too ^.^ My Heart and other Black Holes is one I am intrigued by as well.

I also really like your library. They have good taste!

I agree, I love my library as well, it's small, but comfortable and has the latest books!

I'm SO glad you loved Uprooted! I'm still in the middle of it but the story is wonderful. Also glad you loved Hello, I Love You. I'm almost done with it and personally don't like it at all, but at least someone else did. :) Hooray for all those beautiful birthday books! I've read and LOVED Splintered and Written in the Stars. 14. Awesome Haul Benish! I can't wait to see what you think of Splintered and The Distance Between Us. Those are two books that I have on my TBR :) I wasn't a big fan of Rough Justice, so I'm really curious to see what you end of thinking of it! I love MC romance! My Favorite is the Reapers Series by Joanne Wylde. Happy Almost Birthday! I can't believe you are going to be 22. Enjoy :)

  17. Wow, amazing haul! As for BEA: Reading about your paranoia in crowds, it struck a bell for me. Yes! I have that same issue with crowds....and when I went to BEA in 2008, when it was in LA...I couldn't wait to get out of there! It was a little claustrophobic!

So...Probably won't be going again anytime soon...LOL. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  18. Holy Hell what an amazing haul!! I think you got more books than I did and I actually was a BEA LOL! I know what you means about big crowds and long lines, but it's never bothered me at BEA. Things are pretty well organized, except for the last day last year when they'd combined BEA and BookCon AND oversold BookCon. THAT was a madhouse, I still cringe just thinking about it D: In case I don't chat with you again before Friday, I hope that you'll have a wonderfully bookish birthday ♥ xx

You got a great haul these weeks! And you got so many books read these two weeks. I am sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Nowhere But Here, I am not sure yet whether I want to read it. I did enjoy the author her other series as far as I read, but this one didn't really appeal to me.
