Cam Girl
Leah Raeder

Source: DRC was sent free of charge via Netgalley and Simon and Schuster. Thank you.
Thoughts: Apologies for not being as active as much, I have been really busy with studies and life in general, I'm still trying to get into the blogging everyday mode after my long break so bare with me. I have been doing a lot of reading these past months, so I shall be doing mini reviews today of hyped books, new releases, and upcoming releases. Mini reviews are getting pretty popular these days so here's to hoping we find some gems in stones. In Cam Girl, Vada Bergen and Ellis Carraway are best friends, they're so close the reader isn't aware which girl ends and which one starts if that actually makes sense. Nevertheless, after an accident Vada is left deeply scarred emotionally and physically. Her promising career of art is cut short, and Ellis pulls away from her. Vada has nothing to lose now, so she meets these entrepreneurs who want to set her up as a cam girl. Vada has to strip on webcam, and the money begins to pour in. A client name "Blue" gets serious, he's more interested in Vada's life than her body. Online, they chat intimately, Vada shares her life with Blue, and Blue continues to remain a mystery. Soon, Vada wants to meet Blue, and Blue agrees on one condition, to bring someone back from her past. This book is just .. wow. This is most definitely Leah Raeder's best work, her other books Unteachable and Black Iris didn't appeal to me as much because they focused more on pornographic graphic details than an actual plot. Although, the author has a beautiful way of writing and challenging stereotypes. Now, this one actually has an amazing plot. This book has everything you would want in a novel, Leah is an LGBT author so that's always different to read about. This novel deals with a concept that hasn't been mentioned in her books before. I wish I would tell you but I rather not spoil it. This is more than a romance novel, it deals with more self-discovery aspects. JUST READ THIS BOOK. It's an amazing book, and you can't help but follow Vada's journey. Cam Girl is definitely being added to my favorites list.

The Wrong Side of Right
Jean Marie Thorne

Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary

Purchase: Amazon | Audible | Goodreads | Book Depository
Source: Borrowed from the library

Thoughts: Kate Quinn's mother died last year, and she soon finds out she has a father who she never knew existed before. He's a powerful politician who is apparently running for U.S President. Now, Kate is moving in with a family she never knew about before, and she is joining the campaign of a man she doesn't even know. She might be falling in love with a boy with a rebellious side as well. This is a slightly intense self-discovery name. It's more about drama, and family dynamics than actual romance. There is romance in the novel, although I found it somewhat boring - my main focus was on the family since that was initially what had drawn me to the book. I feel in a lot of books, author's either make the romance more focused or the actual plot/action. Surprisingly, in The Wrong Side of Right, the romance took a backseat, there should be a balanced though of both aspects for the novel to be fantastic. Otherwise the family dynamic was fairly interesting. The relationship between Kate and her newfound family was adorable, Kate was imperfect, she had flaws, and her insecurities were believable. She is trying to find her place in a world she might not belong to. She is a democrat, her father is a republican so naturally their ideas do clash. The father and daughter aspect was so refreshing and heartbreaking to read about, they do go back and forth with their perspectives. This novel does touch your heart. I just feel the romance was a bit unnecessary and cheesy, it could have been better. Recommended for fans of Sarah Dessen, and Huntley Fitzpatrick.

89 Walls
Katie Pierson

Genre: Contemporary, Mature Young Adult
Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Nobles | Goodreads | Book Depository
Source: Review copy was sent free of charge via the author, Katie Pierson.

Thoughts: 89 Walls is a political, love story. Quinn is republican and Seth is a democrat. It's more of a romance novel, although politics plays it's fair share. This seemed quite similar to the epic love story Romeo and Juliet - this seems like a young adult novel but it's quite mature so kudos to the author for making a change in young adult fiction. I wish there was less teenage angst in the novel though, the characters seem to be running back and forth to each other which I usually cannot stand in books. The novel picks up by the second half, as the first half was rather slow. The book contains taboo and sensitive topics which was interesting to read about such as suicide, politics, and many others. I can't mention them without spoiling the plot. That's not something you read in young adult fiction. Although, the concepts were a bit all over the place since the book was at a moderate length, about 264 pages. I think about two of the actual concepts were relevant to the main plot. The main character Quinn seems conservative, however, some of her actions declare her as a hypocrite which saddens me. I understand though, it's all politics which is usually not my genre. The novel did have plenty of potential though, and the writing was indeed beautiful. The book is a page turner, and as a reader I couldn't wait to find out what happens next.

Thank you for reading this! Have an amazing month of September - Leave your blog links in the comments & I'll be sure to check them out & drop by :) Stay in tuned pretty creatures..

  2. Nice mini reviews! I hope you can get back on track with blogging soon, but do take your time and ease your way into it. I have been wanting to read Cam Girl since I have heard about it, and it sounds like the kind of story that is a meaningful and an interesting concept to write about as well. I like the idea of Kate's character being realistic with her own flaws as well in the novel Wrong Side of Right, although the third book you mentioned doesn't really appeal to me...

  6. Oh, it's such an irony that the book you rated the less seems the most appealing to me. Anyway, all these books sounds very interesting. I'm glad to have you back, Benish. Nice reviews!

  17. I really enjoyed The Wrong Side of Right. I loved the relationships and the idea of political YA from a teen's standpoint. Great review! <3

  18. That is a surprising amount of Quinn's in characters here, Benish! Odd coincidence. The political side of things isn't something I'm really interested in reading about in my fiction, at least not if it's fairly real politics (if it's in a fae world? I'm for it), so I don't think I'm overly drawn to either of the YA reads here, even if I've heard interesting things baout 89 Walls and The Wrong Side of Right does sound fairly intriguing, even if it also seems to have a lot going on.

Lovely reviews. Sorry those two weren't the best for you.xx
