Beauty Comes in All Sizes.♥

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

Femme's Reflections is a feature I created on my blog to share my personal reflections.

I've had a lot of criticism in life because I'm skinny. I'm a size 0, most people believe size 0 is unhealthy, but it's not always. People assume I starve myself and I'm constantly on a diet. I mean, even my doctor once thought I was ..

"Are you on a diet?" .. No.
"Do you eat on time?" .. I do, but sometimes I don't feel hungry, so I skip it.
"That's it! You're on a diet! You're anorexic"
Okay.. Really? If I'm not hungry at times and I don't eat, it makes me anorexic. Maybe it's because I ate something fuller in the day? Dieting is different, that's when you purposely want to lose weight. I don't want to lose weight, neither gain. If I do gain, yippie but If I don't, it's no problem at all.

Being skinny doesn't always mean healthy, but just so you know, I'm only 5 feet so actually being size 0 is fine for me. Maybe for my age, I might be underweight but come on I'm normal for my height. I eat three times a day, sometimes even four. I'm addicted to junk food, and I even eat vegetables .. except Broccoli. I hate Broccoli.

I can't help the way I look or weigh, I've always been skinny my entire life. I find it really harsh when family and friends tell me to "gain some weight" What if I told you to lose some weight? Not nice when the tables turn on you eh? Some people can't help being skinny, just like some people can't help being fat.

I have a cousin who is 5'4, and she is less than 100 pounds. It's not because she's on a diet or starves herself,  I've lived with her in the past for months. I've seen her eat pretty much everything. Sometimes, she helps herself to two plates. The point is, she's skinny because she can't help it. There's some thing called genetics. She was pregnant, but even looked skinny when she was. She lost all the post-baby weight without doing anything under four months after she had a child. You know, sometimes skinny can be a blessing :)
I'm allowed to love my bones, if people are allowed to love their fat. It's not fair to call one girl "twigs" and the other  "chubba labba." Both should not be mistreated.

I don't see anything wrong with being overweight. Marilyn Monroe and Kim Kardashian are considered to have the ideal body. They're not skinny or fat, more curvy than most women. Not everyone can have that "perfect" body though. You don't need to be skinny to be beautiful, neither do you need to have fat in the right places to be beautiful.
I just don't think it justifies people to make fun of skinny people. I don't think one weight category defines everything. Skinny is not perfection, nor fat is perfection. Every size and shape is beautiful. People just need to be more open-minded and instead judge people from their minds, and not from their physical forms.

People should be more appreciative and others and more encouraging. Beauty comes in great sizes, look at Adele, Jessica Simpson, Scarlett Johannson, Aishwarya Rai etc. I don't see anything wrong with someone's weight until it personally threatens their lifestyle, then it might become a problem if it's anorexia or obesity. If it doesn't harm someone, then stop making it a big deal.

"The person born with a talent they are meant to use will find their greatest happiness in using it." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

  3. This is a wonderful post. And I completely agree. I hate when people tell others that they need to gain weight. I have a friend who has always been skinny, no matter how much junk food she eats, and she's constantly told she needs to eat more and gain some weight. I can tell it really bothers her. So I'm really glad you brought this to people's attention. :)

  5. I know what you mean, I used to be so skinny, even though I ate like a little pig. I also had a health problem and people assumed I`m bulimic...Now I gained a few pounds and suddenly I`m fat according to some people. But I guess they don`t feel good in their skin, so they try to bring others down. Great post!

  7. Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog, following by GFC now.

This is a wonderful post and I agree with everything you said. I have dealt with criticism over being slim too. People assuming I don't eat and when I do they watch me. I even had a women say "she'll probably throw it up later" to my mum, whilst I was eating. I have no worries over my size as that is my frame but for some reason other people seem to want to bring it up a lot. I dislike how people think it's ok to point out someone being slim and called them anorexic.

    1. Yes, that's so true - people should realize it's not alright to call someone anorexic without knowing the facts either. Everyone's beautiful in their way, regardless of shape and size.

  8. Agree 100%
They say beauty comes in every size to make fat girls feel better, yet they judge skinny ones, one of my best friends had terrible self-steem problems because everyone was always judging her as an anorexic girl, made me sick.
as for me , ont eh other side, I had an average weight and loved eating and everyone just loved it, now that I've gained weight they're always making disgusting comments and suggesting a diet or something. I say f*ck them.

  14. So true! It doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, are you healthy and happy on the inside? Then so be it. I love that you portray that everyone and every size is beautiful because it's totally true - the narrow-minded society should not matter!

    1. Agreed, that's the main point. If someone is happy AND healthy, then that's what matters. Love your words! XOXO

  15. Great post - I completely agree with you, if you're healthy then nothing else matters. I always find people slating girls because they're too skinny or 'twiggy' I've heard and it's horrible but they think skinny girls don't get offended because 'everyone' wants to be thin but it's not true - if skinny girls were to call a larger girl fat then people have something to say to the skinny girl but if the fat girl says something to the skinny girl it's always over looked and it's wrong.

    1. Glad you noticed that! It's not cool to say to someone "you're too skinny" or "you're anorexic." I wish people would be more open-minded instead of finding new ways all the time to criticize and put each other down <3
