Books in my TBR.♥

Thursday, March 19, 2015

Feminist Reflections is a feature I created on my blog to share my personal thoughts.

My TBR on Goodreads is actually of books I have bought, received for review or are giveaway prizes.

They're next on my reading list. I only have 25 books in this list, these books are the ones I'm going to read for the current MONTH. It's not every book that I have bought or have gotten for review.

As the list gets lesser, I add more books in. I remember when I first started on Goodreads, I had over 2000 books added to my TBR - I realized, I'm not going to actually ever read those 2000 books, I usually read about 250-300 books per year so it would have taken me about EIGHT years to finish them all, not to mention there are even more books that are releasing as well.

I'll probably read only about 300ish.. So, I decided to take control, delete some books, and make my shelf short and sweet. I actually added another TBR-future reads shelf if I have time, those are books I WANT to read. As of right now, it has about 400 books. I try to keep it under 400, so it's not as overwhelming.

It was time consuming to delete and switch the books around, but it was so worth it.

Here are the books on my TBR.

The Silver Witch by Paula Brackston: I won this book in a giveaway, the cover is stunning.

5 to 1 by Holly Bodger: I received this book for review, it's a dystopian novel about marriage. I love the henna covered hands, and it's a cross cultural novel.

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas: I have bought an ebook, I didn't like the first installment Throne of Glass as much as I thought I would, however everyone has told me TO READ THE NEXT BOOK and so I shall. I've heard this is the best book in the series.

Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge: I received this book for review, I loved Cruel Beauty by this author so I'm hoping this fantasy novel would be just as amazing. This is the fairytale retelling of Red Riding Hood.

The Boy Next Door by Katie Van Ark: I won this book in a giveaway, it sounds like a cute contemporary romance. I love boy next door romance novels so let's see.

Hold Me Like A Breath by Tiffany Schmidth: I received this book for review, I actually want to read this one solely on that beautiful cover. It's a fantasy novel.

Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin: I have bought the physical copy for quite some time now, it has been recommended me to me a by a friend. The premise and the romance of rich girl(she is actually a young girl) and poor man sounds intriguing. The movie cover is beautiful.

Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers: I have bought an ebook, I've read the previous book in His Fair Assassin series and I quite liked it. I heard this is the best book in the series.

Black Iris by Leah Raeder: I have received this book for review, I didn't like Unteachable that much, but I do love the author's writing style so I'm giving her another chance.

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins: I've bought an ebook. I've read the previous two books in the Anna and The French Kiss series which I quite disliked - I did like Lola's book better than Anna's though. I don't know why I'm bothering with the third and final installment of the series. I just want to see why EVERYONE seems to like this series and I don't. I like giving more than one consideration to the author so let's see.. In this case, this is the third consideration, If it fails I will never read this author again. I'm really hoping this one might change my mind about the author once and for all.

What about you guys? What are some books in your TBR?
Do you feel overwhelmed by the number of books in your TBR list as well?

  • Shukran for reading this! Leave your blog links in the comments & I'll be sure to check them out :) Stay in tuned pretty creatures..

  3. You didn't like the first installment? Ohh noess :( We need to change that lmfao! I promise the second and the third are so much better than the first one. It is a bit slow bec it is the first book in the series and needs some time to develop the story and its characters.

    1. Yes, you should! I don't think you can chose what book to read next with so many books in your TBR, good luck x

  6. Crimson Bound! So good! I actually liked it more than Cruel Beauty <3 Well, I gave them the same rating but I like it more in sense that I liked how not overly focused on the romance it were and more on the fantasy elements :D Anyway, I cannot wait to buy the hardcover <3 <3 Nice list! I've just started Hold Me List a Breath, and I don't really like it. I mean, it's okay... I guess. I don't know, but it might be a DNF. Might.

    1. YAY!! I hope I like Crimson Bound as well, the cover is beautiful as the previous novel - I'm hoping it might be even better. Hold Me Like A Breath sounds interesting though, that's disappointing you couldn't enjoy it as much :( Thank you for dropping by Lola ❤️

  7. Ohh very nice list! I agree, the cover for The Silver Witch is stunning! Hold Me Like a Breath, Crown of Midnight, and 5 to 1 are both on my imminent TBR. Because my actual TBR? Yeah, like 1100 books. Which is obscene, honestly. And I do NOT read anywhere near the amount you do (which I am sad, jealous, and impressed about) so it would take me about 8 years or so as well. I have done clean-ups in the past but then.... more books! In fact, I did a cleanout around the new year, I was down to about 780, and somehow gained 400 back in 3 months!? Unacceptable! I am going to go do a bit of cleaning of my own, thanks for the push I needed! Hope you enjoy the ones that made the cut ;)

  8. Dark Triumph and Crown of Midnight rocked. I have been cleaning out my Goodreads to only included books I own since it was totally out of control.

  9. I think keeping your to-read list under 400 is a ncie goal. I think my current to-read list is somewhere around the 3000. That's still a lot, but it's more manageable than thousands. Only my review pile is around the 50 at the moment. I don't really have a lits of rbooks I plan to read soon, although I have oen sort of in my head, but it's pretty vague and can switch easily.

    1. Wow, 3000 is a lot - I'm glad you could manage with so many books in your TBR :)

  10. I'm really bad at organizing my books on Goodreads. I use it more for keeping track of what I read. I add to the want-to-read list and never look at it again. lol

  11. I had over 800 books on my TBR and also felt totally overwhelmed by it so I deleted about half of them (usually books I was not interesdted in reading anymore) at the beginning of this year. Having 400-500 books on my TBR definitely seems doable :)

    1. Yes, I agree with you there - 400 books is the maximum for me there :)

  13. So many gorgeous books on your TBR Benish, I'm particularly interested in the 5 to 1 indian dystopian, it sounds freaking amazing! Definitely Crown of Midnight is absolutely amazing over Throne of Glass. I hope you enjoy the rest of your books as well! I'm particularly keen on your thoughts on Crimson Bound and Isla, because I still don't know if I'm continuing with the series or not.

  14. Dark Triumph is the BEST book of the series. I need to get control of my TBR as well.

  15. I like how you organise your Goodreads shelves :) I have a 'wishlist' and 'maybe read' shelves to differentiate between those I definitely want to read and those I'm not so sure about. My 'to read' shelf is all the books I own that I really need to get to. So many books. So little time :(

Hold Me Like a Breath sounds really interesting! I am totally curious about it. I hope you enjoy them all :)

  17. I have about 1500 on my TBR and I try to keep it under that. And that is after I went through and deleted! However, when I add a book I do add a whole series for some reason, so it has series included on there. I like the idea of some of your future reads, and I look forward to seeing what you think of them.

  19. I really didn't like Throne of Glass either, so I'm curious to see whether you'll enjoy the next one. Dark Triumph however is another story! I liked Grave Mercy ooo-kay, but I didn't LOVE it. Dark Triumph has a much more interesting heroine, a more intriguing love interest and a better story. I hope you enjoy it!

  20. I just finished Throne of Glass, and I NEED Crown of Midnight in my hands now. I also requested 5 to 1, and I hope to get accepted because I've already heard good things about it :)

    Awesome list!!

  21. YAY for CROWN OF MIDNIGHT. I'm glad you kept it on your list, Benish, because it is SO worth the read :D I didn't care much for THRONE OF GLASS, either, but COM really changed my feelings for the series (and THE ASSASSIN'S BLADE even more so *crying*).

As for my TBR - I don't have any way to handle it except by reading review copies by release date first, and going from there. There are hundreds upon hundreds of books on my Goodreads TBR because I just add any book that i have any interest in reading. Might not be the best idea, but I like keeping track of the books that look good!
