Mid-monthly news at Feminist Reflections #10♥

Sunday, May 10, 2015

I wanted to do this post every two weeks showcasing my future posts, past recap, books I have read, book haul and other news!
It's inspired froStacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, and the Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It will be a combination of book haul and my personal reflections.

  • Happy mothers day to all the amazing mamas out there! I went out for mothers day with my family at this beautiful Afghan restaurant, we had an amazing time, I actually ate so much and I ended up like a bloated whale afterwards. The weather was lovely though especially at night when we went by the lake. I just have more finals and exams left, one more week left of school before the semester is over! Busy month.. wish me luck guys! These past two weeks I was catching up on old purchases, library copies, and review copies so I didn't buy any new books.

5/15 Tour stop with FFBC: Hold Me Like A Breath Review

Thank you to Penguin Random House, Abram Books,  St. Martin's Press/Griffin, Grand Central Publishing, and Skyscape!
I received Ice Kissed twice and the finished copy of The Ice Twins. I already have the ARC :)
I'll make sure the double copies are in safe hands soon.

One Plus One | I love Jojo Moyes books especially Me Before You, so here's to hoping I enjoy this one as well.
The Guest Cottage | The Story of Us(unsolicited copy) | I like the premises, so let's see.
Bittersweet | I heard a lot of about this book, it's a bestseller.
Black Eyed Susans | Hmm, a suspenseful thriller, I love the title though.
The Infinite Moment of Us | Otherbound | These two books sound amazing with their premise. Gorgeous covers as well.
Letters to the Lost | Those Girls | The School of Unusual Girls( not pictured) That Night (not pictured) Unsolicited copies I received, I love surprises!
Summer Secrets | Aaah another Jane Green book<3 She's one of my favorite authors.
Ice Kissed |I was so waiting for the book to arrive! I read it right away & I adore it. Now I just need the final installment!
The Ice Twins | Twinnie books are usually awesome, I just love the title and cover.
End of Days (not pictured) | The copies that aren't pictured, I realized afterwards I hadn't taken pictures of them. Whoopsie.

I borrowed these from the library actually, I have to do a separate tag for them later, feeling lazy right now.
These books are quite popular and they have been recommended by several blogger friends.
Tiger Lily has been recommended by so many people, I hated it honestly when I read it.
An Ember in The Ashes was so boring, I don't understand the hype, I DNF.
Wild Cards and Just One Day were huge disappointments with their cliche concepts.
Matched had a great concept about arrange marriages, but the plot wasn't good at all. I barely finished this one. I'm not picking up the next books though.
So far these are the books I have read out of the ones I borrowed, and I haven't liked even one :/

These two books are quite hyped right now - I love the sound of Uprooted with it's grim fairytales.
Paradise City, I have heard it's a different kind of book in New Adult so here is to hoping it will wow me.

Vlora @ Reviews and Cakes discusses why she thinks Bambi is a horrifying movie.
Faye @ The Social Potato wants ordinary love interests.
Francine @ Not So Literary discusses looking back at old reviews.

What about you guys? What books did you get?
Have you read any of these before?

  3. So nice to see someone else agree with me on Embers! Same with Matched. I never made it through the first book. I'm about a third into Uprooted and enjoying it, so yay for that. You got lots of great books this week!

    1. Thank you Leeanna ♥ I agree Embers and Matched were two boring books though, I don't understand the hype of those books. Uprooted does sound amazing though!

  4. Aww your family's Mother's Day sounds lovely! And whoa, the books! I am sorry you didn't like An Ember in the Ashes :( I am curious as to what you think about the Ghosts of Heaven and The Infinite Moment of Us, those are two that are on my radar. Good luck with all the stress and business this week! Hope it calms down soon :)

  5. I rarely get books I haven't requested so don't often double-up. But I'm always eagerly awaiting publisher's listings each month (well, for several months in advance) to put in my requests!

  6. You have no idea how much it brings me great relief to know that I'm not the only one who didn't understand the hype around AN EMBER IN THE ASHES. I eventually gave it 3 stars, but in hindsight, that feels too generous. good thing you didn't get to that part where the love interest pretends to rape the heroine to "save" her... LIKE LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. And Happy Mother's Day to your mom Benish! I hope you guys had an awesome time.

  10. Such a great collection! I have to say I like that you have borrowed some great books from the library. Personally I liked Insurgent a lot myself so I hope you do as well. I wasn't such a fan of Matched but perhaps you will like it more than me? I think an Ember in the Ashes sounds very promising as a standalone fantasy, so do let me know what you think in the end!

    1. I didn't like Matched as well, it's a shame because the concept was brilliant about arrange marriages. I made a recent post about An Ember In The Ashes, I actually DNF it :/
